Industrial Controls Panel Builder
Job Summary:
The Industrial Control Panel Builder is responsible for assembling, wiring, testing, and installing industrial control panels for automation systems. This role involves working with electrical schematics, troubleshooting electrical systems, and traveling to customer locations for panel installation, commissioning, and support. The ideal candidate has experience in industrial controls, electrical wiring, and automation systems, ensuring panels meet quality and safety standards.
Key Responsibilities:
Panel Assembly & Wiring:
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical drawings for industrial control panels.
- Assemble and wire control panels, ensuring proper installation of components such as PLCs, relays, circuit breakers, motor starters, and VFDs.
- Terminate wires neatly and securely according to industry standards and specifications.
- Perform point-to-point continuity testing and troubleshoot wiring issues.
- Ensure control panels comply with UL508A, NEC, and other relevant electrical codes.
Field Installation & Commissioning:
- Travel to customer sites for the installation and wiring of industrial control panels.
- Integrate panels with existing industrial automation systems, machinery, and equipment.
- Conduct functional testing, troubleshooting, and system verification at customer locations.
- Work closely with engineers, programmers, electricians, and plant personnel to ensure seamless panel integration.
- Provide technical support and assist in resolving on-site issues.
Quality Assurance & Safety Compliance:
- Follow company standards and industry best practices for control panel assembly.
- Conduct inspections to ensure panels meet safety, performance, and customer specifications.
- Adhere to workplace safety policies and procedures while working on-site and in the shop.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and efficient workspace.
Qualifications & Requirements:
- High school diploma or equivalent; Technical certification or associate degree in Electrical Technology, Industrial Automation, or a related field is preferred.
- Experience in industrial control panel building, electrical wiring, or automation systems.
- Proficiency in reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documents.
- Knowledge of industrial control components, including PLCs, HMIs, VFDs, relays, and motor starters.
- Hands-on experience using hand tools, power tools, multimeters, and other testing equipment.
- Ability to travel (including occasional overnight stays) to customer sites for installation and service work.
- Strong troubleshooting skills and attention to detail.
- Basic understanding of networking and industrial communication protocols (Ethernet/IP, Modbus, HART etc.) is a plus.
- The ability to use software configuration tools to set up panel meters, temperature controllers, VFDs, etc. is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license and ability to work independently in the field.
Work Environment & Physical Requirements:
- Work is performed both in a manufacturing facility and at customer sites, including industrial plants, factories, and field locations.
- Exposure to electrical components, tools, and industrial equipment.
- May require lifting up to 50 lbs and prolonged standing, bending, or kneeling.
- Must be comfortable working in various environments, including noisy or dusty conditions.
- Travel requirements may vary depending on project demands.
