What are the responsibilities and job description for the Learning Engagement Fellow position at Arena Stage Fellowship?
Are you an emerging theater educator, artist, or arts administrator eager to join a professional theater team? Bring your creativity, passion, and energy to the Learning Engagement Fellowship at Arena Stage! This unique opportunity combines hands-on experience in education and community programming, offering the chance to co-teach, assist in a program that produces devised original theater, and engage with students and community members of all ages.
As a Fellow, you'll gain training and experience in:
- Participating in the creation of Learning Guides for Arena Stage productions.
- Conducting in-school workshops through custom lesson plans.
- Serving as an administrator and day-of liaison and guide for Arena Stage's D.C. Ticket Partnership Matinees (DCTP), a student program serving over 1,000 D.C. public and charter school students.
- Assisting with the administrative aspects of the Voices of Now program, an ensemble-based devised theater initiative designed to create pieces that inspire community dialogue.
- Supporting additional community programming, such as Moving Stories storybook workshops for preschool students and our professional development department.
- Using theater as a tool for dialogue, community engagement, and change.
The ideal candidate for the Learning Engagement Fellow position will be someone with enthusiasm, creativity, and experience working with young people in schools and community settings. The ideal candidate will:
- Have experience making or performing theater (a theater or education degree is not required).
- Be comfortable writing individually and collaboratively.
- Possess excellent writing and research skills using reputable sources.
- Be organized, flexible, patient, and a team player who embraces challenges with joy.
- Thrive in diverse environments, including offices, classrooms, rehearsal halls, and stages.
