What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lighting Fellow position at Arena Stage Fellowship?
As the Lighting Fellow, you will work collaboratively in a professional theater setting alongside some of the top lighting professionals in the field. The fellowship provides a dynamic environment for the Fellow to hone their skills before beginning their professional career or continuing their higher education.
Arena Stage will provide the Lighting Fellow many opportunities for learning in a working environment and in structured training sessions including:
- Acting as the resident assistant to a variety of lighting designers.
- Assisting in planning, implementation and maintenance of the lighting designs and systems
- Work with the most current drafting software and lighting systems
- Opportunity to light special projects and events.
- Opportunities to visit or work in other Washington area theaters.
The ideal candidate for the Lighting Department will be a hardworking individual that is passionate about lighting with a desire to further develop both knowledge and skills. The position often requires working efficiently and under pressure. The fellow would arrive with a well-grounded understanding of computer-aided drafting, theatrical lighting methods and equipment. The fellow will be required to communicate in a professional manner in both written and verbal format.
Additional expectations: The Lighting Fellow will be required to work a variable schedule depending on the production needs but no more than 40 hours a week average over the fellowship. This means that during technical rehearsals, weekly hours will be well over 40, but those extra hours are offset by time off on other weeks. Your work assisting the lighting team may occasionally require climbing ladders, working at heights and lifting up to 50 pounds.
