Job Description
The Manager, Environmental Compliance reports to the Director, Regulatory Affairs. This position will be responsible for facilitating and managing environmental compliance for Arevon’s renewable energy projects, while supporting initiatives designed to achieve safety, environmental, compliance, reliability, and availability goals. The Manager, Environmental Compliance will work independently and as part of a team to take ownership of environmental compliance obligations, tracking, and necessary reporting.
Responsibilities
- Establish a comprehensive environmental compliance strategy to improve environmental performance of Arevon’s portfolio of renewable energy projects, maximizing operational flexibility and cost benefits.
- Develop, lead, and/or manage an environmental compliance program ensuring compliance with all applicable local, state, and federal environmental laws.
- with Arevon Asset Management, Development, and Construction teams in reviewing project designs, plans, issued permits, and other contract documents and create an inventory of environmental compliance requirements and commitments.
- Create and maintain compliance trackers to ensure environmental compliance requirements and commitments are met.
- Report promptly on environmental deficiencies or excursions, actively lead or assist in investigations and root-cause analyses and develop appropriate mitigative/corrective actions.
- Prepare periodic (monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and/or annual etc.) air/water quality reports or filings for regulatory agencies, such as, US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), California Environmental Reporting System (CERS), California Air Resources Board (CARB), California Energy Commission (CEC), local, county, state or other federal agencies.
- Conduct periodic reviews and update project specific plans/documents, such as, Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP), Spill Prevention, Control and Countermeasure (SPCC) Plans, Hazardous Materials Business Plans (HMBP), etc.
- Serve as the Subject Matter Expert on environmental compliance, maintaining knowledge of national and state level environmental policies and regulations and delivering effective compliance guidance, support, and training as needed.
- Assist internal teams in reviewing local, county, state, and federal environmental regulations for appropriate herbicide and vegetation management practices.
- Support the contracting, selection, and management of vendors providing environmental services, including reviewing and managing cost proposals, invoicing, work plans, and execution strategies.
- Liaise with local, state, and federal agencies, as appropriate to ensure project environmental compliance.
- for site visits and/or meetings with key stakeholders including regulators, Operations & Maintenance (O&M) service providers, and external consultants.
- Create environmental compliance related handoff materials and support transition of projects from development to construction to operations.
- Collaborate with Sustainability/ESG team to ensure Arevon’s environmental activities align with ESG initiatives and requirements.
- 7 years of environmental compliance experience.
- Working knowledge of National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA), Clean Air Act (CAA), Endangered Species Act (ESA), California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), CARB, national/state level environmental policies and regulations, etc.
- Experienced in regulations regarding protected species in California and throughout the US for construction permit close-out and ongoing operations.
- Understanding of renewable energy project development, construction, and operations and associated environmental/permit compliance is a plus.
- Self-driven, detail oriented, and ability to identify and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
- Must be capable of managing multiple projects/initiatives and collaborate with internal and/or external teams.
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, Biology, Ecology, or a related field from an accredited institution.
