The Social Media Reporter contributes to Areya Media’s mission by engaging audiences across Okayplayer’s digital and social platforms.
Duties / Responsibilities
The Social Media Reporter is responsible for managing content, scheduling posts, and monitoring social media metrics. The Social Media Reporter will develop and champion the Okayplayer brand across social as an on camera talent and personality (Instragram, TikTok, SnapChat). This position will have the following responsibilities and duties:
- Serve as an on-camera personality for Okayplayer’s social media platforms, delivering news, interviews, and cultural commentary.
- Conduct on-the-ground reporting at events, pop-ups, red carpets, festivals, and industry gatherings, capturing real-time content.
- Curate content following the social media brand strategy, with a focus to deliver creative and engaging social-first content.
- Conceptualize, define and execute social media strategies/content for Okayplayer in collaboration with the Editorial, Production, Newsletter and Special Projects team.
- Stay ahead of viral moments, cultural conversations, and trending topics to create timely, relevant content.
- Assist in managing and maintaining Okayplayer’s social media presence across social platforms.
- Pitch original content ideas for social/editorial coverage.
- Write trending news scripts for social first videos that range from 60-90 seconds; must be reactionary, explanatory and engaging.
- Develop qualitative and quantitative content performance goals.
- Identify new partnership prospects and develop key relationships that will help grow audience and engagement through the distribution of content and video.
- Manage quality control and processes to ensure an efficient and effective level of engaging content.
Qualifications
The Social Media Reporter should be an in-depth expert in brand culture, social trends, and Black culture overall. They should have the following skills, education and experience.
- A critical thinker, who can interpret trends and who has copywriting skills with a “can do” results-oriented mentality.
- 5 years of experience in social media marketing and/or on-camera talent facing skills.
- Must be fluent in the nuances present across all key social platforms.
- Excellent writing skills and grammar
- Ability to produce, film and edit content using tools such as Final CutPro, Adobe Premiere, CapCut, Canva and Social Media apps.
- Deep knowledge of the OkayPlayer voice and brand, as well as a passion for music, social justice, art, film, news, comedy and tech (particularly online communities and the web).
