Description
The Senior Project Financial Manager is responsible for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on the project financial aspects of ACI’s engineering practice. Responsibilities include leadership, project financial planning, budgeting, cost control, forecasting, and ensuring the profitability of ACI projects. This position requires collaboration with project managers and business unit directors to ensure the financial success of projects; essentially acting as the project financial expert within an engineering team, providing insights to inform decision-making. Additionally, this individual shall coordinate with Corporate Accounting to manage the impact of project performance on corporate financials. The Senior Project Financial Manager also develops standard methodologies and procedures for a team of project controllers and project accounting specialists.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
- Lead and mentor project controllers, accountants, and administrators in best practices, technical accounting skills, and career growth.
- Collaborate with Business Unit Directors, Project Managers, and senior leadership for efficient financial operations.
- Coordinate with other departments (Finance, Legal) to align project financial activities.
- Guide department-specific strategic initiatives aligned with ACI's objectives.
- Participate as an active member of ACI’s Leadership Team, fostering collaborative and result-driven culture.
Financial Forecasting, Budgeting and Reporting
- Develop annual revenue budgets and business unit operating budget in coordination with Business Unit Directors and President.
- Monitor and analyze financial performance of business units and projects, comparing actual results to forecasts.
- Identify project financial trends and propose mitigation strategies for potential issues.
- Assist project managers in preparing budgets, considering project scope and resource allocation.
- Prepare regular project financial reports for stakeholders, aligning with project milestones.
- Establish cost control measures, track expenditures, analyze proposals for risks and opportunities, and ensure alignment with client contracts.
- Analyze and report on project profitability, cost overruns, and financial risks.
- Assist in developing standard and project-specific rate sheets.
Project Billing & Invoicing
- Oversee preparation and submission of invoices according to contract terms and milestones.
- Ensure accurate billing schedules and approve project team time and expense allocations.
Contract Management & Compliance
- Review client contracts and change orders to ensure accurate financial representation and compliance.
- Ensure adherence to company accounting standards and company policies.
- Assist in contract negotiations and maintain accurate documentation of financial transactions.
Cost Monitoring and Analysis
- Regularly review project expenditures, identifying variances, investigating causes, and developing corrective actions.
- Perform cost-benefit analyses on project modifications.
- Track key financial metrics (actual costs, ETC, profitability).
Collaboration, Communication and Process Improvement
- Communicate project financial information clearly to technical and non-technical audiences.
- Partner with leadership to identify opportunities for process improvement and implement streamlined systems in compliance with company policies.
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting/finance or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
- 8 years of relevant experience in Accounting/Finance, preferably in the AEC industry.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Proficiency in financial modeling and analysis techniques
- Knowledge of project management methodologies and principles
- Excellent communication and presentation skills
- Understanding of engineering principles and project lifecycles
- Expertise in business intelligence software such as Power BI
- Experience with Deltek Vantagepoint preferred
- Leadership and supervisory skills
