Direct Support Professional for PCA House

Grand Junction, CO

One Full-Time Position. 40 hours per week.

Sunday through Saturday. Days, evening, and overnights.

Hiring Range : $7.00 - $18.53 / hr., depending upon education and experience.

This position will remain open until filled.

Minimum Requirements

Required :

  • Minimum age 18.

Preferred :

  • Six months experience in a related field, i.e., serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled, or the mental health field.
  • 6 Months of experience providing total care to individuals.
  • Related certifications and trainings, (CPR, Safety Care, QMAP, First Aid). All certifications must be certifiable and current.

  • Position Summary

    This position is responsible for providing person centered services and supports for intellectual and developmentally disabled adults. The primary responsibility will be to provide direct supervision to the clients in activities and assist the clients in building the skills necessary to live as independently as possible in their community.

    Essential Duties and Responsibilities

    1. Teach clients self-help, social, interpersonal, and daily living skills, according to their treatment plans.

    2. Safely provide transportation per Ariel's Transportation Policy.

    3. Responsible for supports and assistance with personal care as needed.

    4. Review and become familiar with client specific protocols, services and supports, and individual support plans. Gather supplies, equipment, medications, and materials for engaging in person-centered services and supports in a meaningful way.

    5. Complete required documentation daily.

    6. Manage challenging behaviors through established training.

    7. Communicate effectively and efficiently with other team members, leads, supervisors, manager, and other agency administration as needed.

    8. Actively participate in supervision, training, community, team and service plan meetings, as directed.

    9. Follow all safety procedures and agency policies.

    10. Maintain professional boundaries while establishing a trustworthy and beneficial relationship.

    11. Represent the agency in a positive and professional manner.

    12. Perform other duties as assigned.

    Requirements

    Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

    1. Skilled in maintaining a high level of confidentiality in all areas related to working at Ariel.

    2. Ability to demonstrate regular attendance and work outside of traditional office hours and settings including nights, weekends and holidays as necessary to meet the needs of the agency and individuals served.

    3. The ability to demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance as scheduled and requested.

    4. Possess the skills to organize and implement planned and structured activities for individuals served to enhance skills and promote personal growth.

    5. Ability to teach job related skills.

    6. Ability to provide excellent customer service and meet professional standards of work performed.

    7. Knowledge of rules and regulations related to the program.

    8. The ability to read, speak and write in English.

    9. The ability to effectively communicate verbally, electronically, and in written format in both individual and group settings.

    10. Ability to be flexible, and able to change direction rapidly, with a positive and respectful attitude

    11. Ability to provide excellent customer service and meet professional standards of work performed.

    12. Knowledge of basic computer functions and technology.

    13. Knowledge of the type of work Ariel provides.

    14. Skilled in critical thinking and use of sound judgment to arrive at a positive outcome.

    15. Ability to provide reliable, insured transportation for self and others through the community served as needed.

    16. Ability to demonstrate consistent and reliable attendance as scheduled and requested.

    Education and Experience

    Required :

  • Minimum age 18.
  • Preferred :

  • Six months experience in a related field, i.e., serving individuals with Intellectual and Developmentally Disabled, or the mental health field.
  • 6 Months of experience providing total care to individuals.
  • Related certifications and trainings, (CPR, Safety Care, QMAP, First Aid). All certifications must be certifiable and current.
  • Certifications / Licenses

    Required :

  • Valid Colorado Driver's License with an acceptable driving record.
  • CPR, First Aid - client contact is limited prior to certification.
  • CPI within 60 days of hire; client contact is limited until this training is completed.
  • Van Drivers Training - before driving an Ariel owned vehicle.
  • QMAP - within 60 days of hire, may not provide medication to clients without this certification.
  • Informed Supervision training
  • BSIT

  • Supervisory Responsibilities

    None

    Physical Demands

    1. This position requires that the incumbent be capable of bending, sitting, stretching, and / or reaching regularly for periods up to two hours without a break.

    2. This position requires that the incumbent have adequate hand and finger dexterity to properly perform the functions of the position.

    3. This position requires lifting regularly up to 25 pounds, pulling, or pushing persons in wheelchairs; transferring persons weighing more than 50 pounds to and from wheelchairs must be performed with another staff member.

    4. At times, physical interventions may be required.

    5. This position requires the ability to see, smell, and distinguish temperature, at a level which is adequate to ensure client and staff health and safety. Adaptive devices are acceptable.

    6. This position will require daily driving of up to one hour per day and occasionally more as needed.

    Work Environment

    1. This position can and will be exposed to all environments from quiet to noisy, climate controlled to extreme outdoor heat and cold.

    2. May work in the community or in family home environments.

    3. Exposure to blood borne pathogens and infectious disease is possible but limited.

    4. Exposure to hazardous chemicals is possible but limited.
