Job Summary:
We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Laboratory Assistant to support the day-to-day activities of our laboratory. This role involves a combination of technical and organizational responsibilities, including sample preparation, equipment maintenance, and assisting researchers with experiments. The ideal candidate will ensure the smooth functioning of the laboratory while adhering to safety and quality standards.
Key Responsibilities
Sample Management
- Collect, label, and organize a variety of samples (e.g., blood, tissue, water, chemicals).
- Prepare samples for analysis using methods such as dilution, staining, centrifugation, or other laboratory techniques.
- Ensure proper storage of samples to maintain their integrity and prevent contamination.
Technical Assistance
- Assist researchers with laboratory procedures such as ELISA, PCR, Western Blot, or titrations.
- Record data accurately during experimental processes to ensure reliability and reproducibility.
- Help prepare samples or reagents required for experiments.
Equipment and Maintenance
- Set up, calibrate, and maintain laboratory instruments, including spectrometers, thermometers, centrifuges, and microscopes.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues or notify technicians for repairs as needed.
- Clean and sterilize laboratory equipment and workspaces to maintain a safe and hygienic environment.
Safety and Compliance
- Properly dispose of hazardous and non-hazardous waste in compliance with safety regulations.
- Ensure laboratory safety protocols are followed at all times to maintain a secure working environment.
Laboratory Operations
- Perform routine laboratory tests and experiments under supervision.
- Assist scientists with routine tasks in larger research projects to ensure efficiency and productivity.
Inventory and Supply Management
- Maintain and update an inventory of laboratory supplies.
- Restock materials as necessary and coordinate with procurement teams to avoid supply shortages.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Biochemistry, Biology, or a related field is required.
- Experience in laboratory procedures and techniques such as ELISA, PCR, Western Blot, or titrations is preferred.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to work under supervision.
- Familiarity with laboratory safety and waste disposal protocols.
- Proficient in recording and interpreting experimental data accurately.
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $15.00 - $18.00 per hour
