Position Overview :
The Veterinary Patient Care / ICU Technician / Assistant will provide advanced clinical care to critically ill or injured patients in the intensive care unit (ICU) and other hospital areas. This role requires a highly motivated and skilled individual who thrives in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment. The ideal candidate will have experience in emergency and critical care, along with a strong understanding of patient care and monitoring.
Key Responsibilities :
Provide direct nursing care to ICU patients, including monitoring vital signs, administering medications, and performing medical treatments as prescribed.
Assist veterinarians or emergency technicians in emergency procedures and advanced diagnostic and therapeutic techniques when needed.
Perform routine patient assessments, including blood pressure, temperature, pulse, and respiratory rate monitoring.
Monitor critically ill patients for changes in condition and report findings to veterinarians.
Assist with diagnostic procedures, including blood draws, catheter placement, and radiographs.
Maintain accurate patient records and ensure proper documentation of treatments, procedures, and medications administered.
Work collaboratively with veterinary staff to develop and implement care plans for hospitalized patients.
Ensure a clean environment in the ICU and other treatment areas.
Communicate effectively with pet owners about their pet’s condition and treatment plan.
Qualifications :
Veterinary Technician License (LVT, RVT, or CVT) preferred but not required.
Previous experience in an ICU, emergency, or specialty veterinary setting is highly desirable.
Strong knowledge of veterinary medical terminology, procedures, and equipment.
Ability to handle a wide range of critically ill patients, demonstrating a calm and compassionate demeanor under pressure.
Excellent communication skills and ability to work as part of a team.
Ability to multi-task and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
Basic proficiency in medical software systems and record-keeping.
Physical Requirements :
Ability to lift and carry animals and equipment up to 50 pounds.
Ability to stand for long periods and perform physical tasks in a fast-paced environment.
Comfort working with potentially ill and difficult-to-handle animals.
Ability to bend, kneel, and crouch.
