Job Summary:
We are seeking a highly skilled and detail-oriented Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) or Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join our high-complexity, medical molecular laboratory. We are a growing, privately owned laboratory. As an MLS/MLT, you will be responsible for performing manual and automated DNA/RNA extraction on clinical specimens. Your expertise and precision will play a crucial role in providing accurate and timely results for our clients, providers, and patients.
Duties:
- Perform laboratory tests and procedures, including but not limited to: specimen collection processing, manual and automated RNA/DNA extraction of patient clinical specimens, qPCR analysis on ThermoFisher QuantStudio 5 & 7 Flex, graph & result interpretation, and proficiency testing.
- Operate and maintain laboratory equipment and instruments.
- Analyze test results, ensure accuracy, and perform quality control procedures.
- Prepare and maintain accurate laboratory records and documentation for daily use and for CLIA/CAP inspections.
- Collaborate with our clients to assist in interpretation of test results and PharmD recommendations.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
- Assist with laboratory management tasks as needed.
Skills:
- Proficiency in and ability to learn new laboratory information systems (LIS) for data entry, result retrieval, and report generation.
- Strong knowledge of the principles of clinical laboratory testing.
- Excellent attention to detail and ability to follow strict protocols.
- Strong analytical skills to interpret test results accurately.
- Effective communication skills to collaborate with healthcare professionals.
- Ability to prioritize tasks efficiently and work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience with manual or automated DNA/RNA extraction would be helpful in this role, however, we are willing to train a candidate with a strong medical laboratory science background (education and/or experience).
Education Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in medical laboratory science, medical technology, clinical laboratory science, chemical, physical or biological sciences; OR
- Associate degree in laboratory science, chemical or biological sciences or medical laboratory technology or equivalent education and training
Shift:
Working hours: Monday - Thursday, 5:00 PM - 2:00 AM (8 hour shifts x 4 days/week = 32 hours/week)
The working days are firm. However, the hours could be slightly negotiated on either end.
The opportunity for this to become a full time (40 hour) work week is possible.
Weekend coverage is rarely needed and is rotated amongst all lab employees.
Compensation:
Pay will depend on a combination of experience and education.
Job Types: Full-time, Part-time
Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
Expected hours: 32 – 50 per week
