Fiber Optic Inspection Technician
(FOIT)
Job Summary:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Fiber Optic Inspection Technician to join our team. The successful candidate will be responsible for inspecting the installation of fiber optic ducts, cables, splice enclosures, handholds, drop enclosures, and the testing of all fiber cables to ensure optimal performance and reliability. All cables will be tested on the reels and after installation.
Responsibilities:
- Conducts thorough inspections of fiber optic cables (on the reels and buried) and systems using Optical Time Domain Reflectometer (OTDR) or its equivalent.
- Performs tests to identify faults, signal losses, and other issues within fiber optic networks.
- Documents inspection results and prepares detailed reports on findings.
- Coordinates repairs, fiber replacement, connections, with installation contractor and re-tests to ensure proper cable optics are achieved.
- Conducts final site inspections to ensure contractor’s work satisfies local permit requirements.
- Ensures compliance with industry standards and safety regulations during inspections.
- Maintains and calibrates inspection equipment to ensure accuracy and reliability.
- Provides technical support and guidance to installation contractors and clients as needed.
Work Environment:
- This role may involve both indoor and outdoor work environments. Travel is required.
- Technicians may work in various settings, including construction sites, office buildings, and outdoor locations. The job may require working at heights, in confined spaces and potentially adverse conditions.
- Technicians should be prepared for physical activity, including lifting and carrying equipment.
- Safety protocols and protective gear are mandatory to ensure a safe working environment.
Qualifications & Education:
- High school diploma or equivalent; technical certification in fiber optics preferred such as CFOT.
- Proven experience in fiber optic inspection, testing, and maintenance.
- Proficiency with fiber optic inspection tools and equipment, such as OTDRs, power meters, and visual fault locators.
- Strong understanding of fiber optic principles, standards, and best practices.
- Excellent attention to detail, analytical skills, and problem-solving skills and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Strong communication and documentation skills.
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel to various job sites as required.
Salary : $70,000 - $85,000
