Principal Objectives/Purpose

The Instructional Specialist is responsible for planning and administering an effective, efficient high school program which provides an optimal educational program for all students. The Instructional Specialist facilitates the professional growth of the staff, leads the instructional program, and ensures a safe and effective learning environment. The Instructional Specialist provides overall leadership to the academic team, ensuring the execution of exemplary instructional practices that are consistent with the school's core values, mission, and vision. The Instructional Specialist is directly responsible for internal operations of the school, including Curriculum, Instruction, & Assessment; Professional Development; Student Culture; and Instructional Staff Recruitment, Retention, and Evaluation. The role is evaluated by the Principal.

Key Result Areas

Instructional Interventions

Lead by example and train staff to understand the use of data for continuous process and service improvement.

Administer Interventions in Math & Reading

With the consultation of the School Principal exercise leadership in improving the effectiveness of the educational program.

Instructional Scheduling and Assessment

Monitor the quality of education and training to students and participants.

Individual Program Performance Outcomes

Calendar is organized, and meetings are manageable to ensure ample time for meetings and other projects.

Schedules meetings as soon as possible or as directed by the School Principal

Administer/ Oversee Arizona State, Benchmark, and Standardized testing

Curriculum Implementation

Under the direction of the School Principal evaluate and modify (if needed) training and processes for teachers and school administrative staff in the areas of engagement, assessment, intervention, evaluation.

Support Implementation of Standards based Curriculum

Attend conferences, in-service training and staff meetings as required.

Assess curriculum implementation and course coverage.

School Culture/Engagement

Create and maintain a positive school culture and climate for students, staff, and stakeholder.

Sends emails to team or other ACYR staff as per the School Principal's guidance within timeframe given.

Safeguard the health and general well-being of students, teachers, and school staff.

Promote good public relations with parents and community members.

Communicate all personnel issues to the School Principal.

Adhere to due process procedures in all matters relating to the rights, welfare, and personal safety of students and personnel.

Instructional Coaching

Connect in weekly and monthly individual and team meetings with the teachers and administrative staff.

Schedules meetings as soon as possible or as directed by the School Principal

Research, identify and provide professional development or conference opportunities for teachers and administrative staff on an annual basis or as determined by Arizona Department of Education

Motivate staff to develop and use a variety of teaching and learning strategies to evaluate and improve instruction.

Conduct teacher in-service training and facilitate such training when necessary.

Providing leadership and oversight to the Dropout Recovery Program (DRP).

Use, provide training and monitor staff's use of calendar, task and other accountability tools to create efficiencies as well as assist the teachers and administrative staff in areas of time management, goals and performance goals.

Validate skill-based attainment/standards mastery/school credit.

Adhere to all federal and state regulations, policies and requirements in the management and operation of the school and its programs; ensure that all personnel are familiar with applicable rules and regulations.

Complete required federal and state reports in a timely and professional manner as assigned by the School Principal.

In coordination and through the direction of the School Principal administer the school program according to the standards the North Central Association of Schools and applicable Governing Board policies.

Instituting and maintaining collaborative efforts between the school and other ACYR programs and services.

Under the direction of the School Principal develop, implement and maintain individual and team work plans with teachers, administrative staff, and ACYR.


Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Education, Business or related discipline
  • Minimum of three to four years of successful public-school experience as a classroom teacher with grades 9 -12
  • Demonstrated experience in Curriculum and Instruction in education and/or educational administration, or such alternatives as the Governing Board may find appropriate and acceptable
  • Valid Arizona Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Level 1 at the time of hire

Desired Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Educational Leadership (K-12) or Curriculum & Instruction (K-12) or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of successful public-school experience as an educational leader or administrator
  • Minimum of 2 or more years of experience in an educational setting working with at-risk youth
  • Experience working with students of various cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds
  • Experience in the fields of youth development, engagement, education, and workforce development
  • Thorough understanding of school operations and procedures
  • Ability to coordinate campus support operations
  • Working knowledge of curriculum and instruction
  • Ability to evaluate instructional program and teaching effectiveness

Background Check
Must have a reputation for honesty and trustworthiness. Misdemeanour and/or felony convictions may be disqualifying depending on type, number, severity, and how recent. The background check will consist of a reference checks, employment, education, and criminal background search.

ACYR is an at-will employer and any offer of employment with ACYR is contingent upon a successful completion of said background check.

Certification/Licenses/Other Requirements
Valid Arizona Level II Fingerprint Clearance Card. Valid Arizona Driver's License. Requires use of insured personal vehicle for agency business.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, and filing cabinets. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit and use hands. The employee is frequently required to talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to five pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision and ability to adjust focus.

Salary : $55,000 - $57,000
