The ideal candidate brings strong clinical judgment, confidence managing acute issues, and a team-oriented approach. This position is located in a clinical outpatient office in the Northwest Side of Tucson.
- In alignment with current practice structure and ACP guidelines, the APP will not maintain an independent patient panel but will play an essential role in supporting continuity of care by addressing acute concerns, assisting with stable chronic disease management during episodic visits, and performing routine physical exams.
- The APP will work under the supervision of the internal medicine physician, with direct access for real-time case discussion and treatment planning.
- Conduct Same-Day Patient Visits
- Independently evaluate and treat acute, non-emergent conditions using evidence-based practice.
- Manage common complaints such as upper respiratory infections, musculoskeletal injuries, skin issues, and urinary symptoms with efficiency and clinical skill.
- Perform Routine Physical Examinations
- Conduct comprehensive wellness visits, Medicare annual wellness visits, and preoperative assessments.
- Integrate preventive care and screening with focused attention to patient-specific risk factors.
- Order and Interpret Diagnostic Tests
- Utilize labs, imaging, and diagnostics effectively, with a solid understanding of when to escalate findings.
- Review and interpret results independently, with physician consultation as needed for complex cases.
- Prescribe Medications and Treatments
- Prescribe safely and appropriately in accordance with state scope of practice and clinic protocols.
- Educate patients on medication regimens and ensure understanding of treatment goals.
- Provide Patient Education and Counseling
- Apply motivational interviewing and health coaching techniques to promote behavior change.
- Counsel patients on acute conditions, preventive strategies, and chronic disease management.
- Coordinate Referrals and Follow-Ups
- Identify the need for specialty referrals and ensure smooth transitions of care.
- Collaborate with the supervising physician to review consult results and update care plans.
- Document Patient Encounters
- Maintain detailed, timely documentation in the EHR (Epic experience preferred).
- Ensure charting reflects clinical reasoning and supports quality-based care metrics.
- Assist with Chronic Disease Management
- Address chronic diseases like diabetes or hypertension when encountered in same-day or physical exam visits.
- Collaborate with the physician on adjustments to long-term care plans.
- Collaborate with the Health Care Team
- Contribute to a respectful, communicative team environment.
- Participate in case reviews and ongoing care coordination efforts.
- Maintain Compliance with Office and Regulatory Guidelines
- Follow all clinical, legal, and quality standards.
- Engage in continuing education and contribute to practice improvement initiatives.
- Education: Graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant Program or Clinical Nurse Specialist Program.
- Other Qualifications: Current Arizona license and current ACLS certification.
- Minimum of 2–3 years of experience as an NP or PA in primary care, internal medicine, or urgent care.
- Strong diagnostic skills, with the ability to manage patients independently within a supervised framework.
- Confident, adaptable, and committed to providing compassionate, evidence-based care in partnership with a physician-led team.
