Summary Statement

This recruitment will be used to establish an eligibility list for current and future Trooper Trainee positions throughout the state. This classification is designated as uncovered, and incumbents serve at the will of the Arizona Department of Public Safety Director.

Test Process includes - Physical Fitness (PT) and Written (multiple choice) exam

Test date - Saturday, February 22, 2025 report at 8 : 00AM

Testing Location - YUMA, AZ

CRAVER PARK TRACK

1250 W. 5th St. Yuma, Arizona

Applicants meeting the qualifications will be emailed an invitation with additional testing information. Those successfully completing all portions of the testing process will be placed on a list which will be used to fill current and future vacancies.

Trooper Trainees are assigned throughout the state to Highway Patrol Division offices where they complete orientation and training, and perform a wide variety of functions and work. Trooper Trainee positions are designed to prepare prospective candidates to be a Cadet State Trooper with the Arizona Department of Public Safety. Applicants must pass a written and physical fitness examination and demonstrate they have the ability to prepare to be a State Trooper. Trooper Trainees will complete regular physical fitness training and tests, assist with traffic operations, complete administrative work, perform research and special projects, and be considered for advanced training that benefits them and the Department. This classification is designed for those between the ages of 18 and 20 years 6 months , who otherwise meet the requirements to be a Cadet State Trooper. Performs related duties as assigned.

Essential Functions (not intended to be all inclusive)

  • Assists Department employees in performing a wide variety of assignments in support of administrative and operational assignments / functions based on the needs of the assigned area.
  • Performs research and prepares reports on assigned topics.
  • Completes scheduled physical and academic training and testing in preparation for attendance of the State Trooper Academy as a Cadet State Trooper.
  • Performs special projects or assignments as directed.
  • Completes specialty training and performs specialty functions as directed by the Department in direct support of its mission.

  • operate a two-way radio to communicate with dispatchers during routine and emergency situations.
  • work effectively under stressful and hazardous conditions to respond to highway emergencies.
  • Minimum Qualifications

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :

    Must be a U.S. citizen and a high school graduate or have a GED. Must be at least 18 years of age at the starting date of employment. By the starting date, must be a resident of the state of Arizona and possess a valid Arizona driver license.

    ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Must obtain ACJIS Terminal Operator Certification within six months of hire and maintain certification throughout the course of this assignment with the Department.

    Holidays, weekends, and shift work may be required.

    WORKING CONDITIONS / PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :

    Primarily office setting.

    Availability to work irregular hours and / or respond to emergency callouts on a 24-hour basis.

    Ability to travel extensively throughout the State.

    May be exposed to outdoor weather conditions, fumes, dust, toxic or caustic chemicals, or bodily fluids.

    Must successfully complete the examination process.
