GLOBE LAB LEAD TECHNICIAN
Job Summary:
This position will serve as the lead technician in the Globe Area Laboratory under the direct supervision of the Globe Lab supervisor and performs laboratory testing of soils, aggregates, concrete, asphalt mix, and other routine and non-routine testing of highway construction materials.
This position is responsible for monitoring and reviewing all laboratory functions, equipment and test results generated by the lab.
The lead worker delegates work assignments to the other technicians in the lab, and provide necessary training. This position requires the knowledge of the Materials Quality Assurance Program.
This position helps ensure that all sampling and testing is performed in accordance with ADOT's Materials Testing Manual and Standard Specifications.
Duties also include monitoring Correlation and Independent Assurance test results and working with project labs to resolve test result discrepancies between labs and maintain project records.
The position requires verification and calibration of laboratory testing equipment. The lead technician also enters test results into the Department's computer based FAST system. Periodically, the lead worker will be given special assignments by the Tucson Regional Materials Engineer.
Job Duties:
- Perform acceptance testing on aggregates, soils, aliphatic concrete, and Portland cement concrete.
- Leads function in the laboratory in lab tasks, overseeing testing procedures, and technicians practices.
- Input test results in FAST database. Generates special lab reports, summaries, spreadsheets, and research.
- Perform related work as required. May drive state vehicle in the course of State business.
- Maintain and calibrate testing equipment.
- Assist with field sampling and other duties as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned as related to the position.
The Ideal candidate for this position will have:
One year experience in a lab as a Transportation Construction Technician 3 or equivalent.

This position requires driving or the use of a vehicle as an essential function of the job and the following requirements apply. Any employee operating a motor vehicle on State business must possess and retain a current, valid class-appropriate driver’s license, complete all required training, and successfully pass all necessary driver’s license record checks. The license must be current, unexpired, and neither revoked nor suspended. Employees who drive on state business are subject to driver’s license record checks, must maintain acceptable driving records, and must complete all required driver training. An employee who operates a personally owned vehicle on state business shall maintain the statutorily required liability insurance (see Arizona Administrative Code (A.A.C.) R2-10-207.11
