Position Overview:
We are seeking a highly analytical Market Performance Analyst who will focus on data analysis, modeling, and reporting functions related to imbalance market settlements and market performance. This role involves validating imbalance market settlement data, aggregating multiple data sources for profit and loss calculations, and providing recommendations to improve market interactions. The position will also work closely with the ACES team on front office activities for AEPCO's Members and customers.
Key Responsibilities:
This position will be responsible for validating imbalance market settlement data and identifying opportunities to improve market interactions. The Market Analyst will aggregate data from multiple sources to calculate profit and loss of bilateral trades and imbalance market participation, while also creating and analyzing spreadsheets to support these activities. The role will track market issues and represent AEPCO and its Members in regional working groups. Additionally, the Market Analyst will leverage their understanding of AEPCO's Member energy allocation program to incorporate imbalance energy and market trades effectively. Other duties include resolving market settlement disputes, completing CAISO CIDI tickets, and offering expertise in energy accounting and imbalance calculations to support Member billing and business practices.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
The ideal candidate will have a Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, or a related technical field. With 1 plus years of power system experience, the candidate should have basic knowledge of the power industry, generation operations, and energy trading, as well as a foundational understanding of balancing, interchange, and transmission operations. Experience with EIM operations and settlements, especially CAISO and SPP, is highly beneficial. The ability to think dynamically and independently under pressure is essential. Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, along with the ability to work in a team, are crucial. Experience with analytical software, including Excel, Power BI, VBA, R Suite, or similar tools, is required. The ability to work independently, using deductive reasoning, creativity, and problem-solving skills, is also vital for success in this role.
Essential Functions:
- Analyze CAISO EIM and SPP WEIS settlement data to validate its accuracy and identify any discrepancies.
- Manage and resolve market settlement disputes, including completing CAISO CIDI tickets.
- Calculate and monitor the profit and loss of bilateral trades and market participation.
- Identify opportunities to improve market performance and make recommendations based on data analysis.
- Track market issues in CAISO and SPP and actively participate in User Group meetings.
- Provide expertise in energy accounting and imbalance calculations to support Member billing processes and business practices.
