A Day in the Life:
The Controller oversees and coordinates the daily activities of the accounting team to accurately manage the revenues, expenses, assets and liabilities of the organization. The Controller will lead all day-to-day finance operations of a budget of $35 million and supervise a team of 6 staff members including functional responsibility over accounting, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and purchasing and grants administration. The Controller will ensure that AHS has the systems and procedures in place to support effective program implementation and conduct flawless audits. The Controller will work closely with program leaders and their staffs, not only to educate them regarding finance and accounting procedures but also to explore how the finance function can support program operations.
Job Requirements:
- BS degree in Accounting and proven working experience leading an Accounting team.
- CPA License required
- Minimum of seven (7) years of progressively responsible accounting and finance experience required.
- Minimum five (5) years of experience either working in or auditing complex nonprofit organizations.
- Five (5) years' experience managing teams required.
- Proficiency with MS Office; able to learn other software and accounting programs as necessary.
- Proficiency with Financial Edge and Raiser's Edge software a plus.
- Knowledge of accounting principles, practices, standards and laws.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Leads and develops vision for accounting and purchasing teams.
- Oversees all accounts, ledgers, and reporting systems ensuring compliance with appropriate GAAP standards and regulatory requirements.
- Maintains internal control and safeguards for receipt of revenue, costs, program budgets and actual expenditures.
- Coordinates completion of monthly financial reporting.
- Oversees monthly close and reconciliation process.
- Assists AHS leadership in the annual budgeting and planning process; administers and reviews all financial plans and compares to actual results with a view to identify, explain, and correct variances as appropriate.
- Tracks Capital campaign receipts and expenditures.
- Supervises restricted gift recording and tracking of related expenses.
- Coordinates all year-end financial audit activity, including relationship with external auditors
- Works with peer Director Team to improve collaboration and provides financial data needed for decision making.
- Coordinates creation and submittal of annual Form 990.
