Group Volunteer Coordinator

Department : Volunteer Engagement

Location : South Mountain Campus / Papago Park Campus (Plus additional travel around the valley for local events)

Status : 1 FTE

FLSA : Nonexempt

Schedule : Tuesday-Saturday 7 AM - 3 PM, with flexibility as needed for events

Reports To : Manager of Volunteer Engagement

Supervises : N / A

A Day in the Life :

The Group Volunteer Coordinator will oversee, schedule, and manage volunteer group events ensuring smooth coordination and execution of tasks for groups of 10-100 volunteers . The coordinator will lead and work alongside volunteers to execute activities including : walking large dogs, making treats, cleaning kennels, laundry, and dishwashing. The coordinator must be able to safely handle large dogs and walk them to and from kennels during events, spend consecutive hours standing, and be outside with exposure to heat and cold. The coordinator will make a direct impact on the lives of shelter animals while leading a diverse and enthusiastic group of volunteers.

Job Requirements :

  • High school diploma / GED required.
  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • One to three years of demonstrated experience organizing events.
  • Experience teaching, working with volunteers and / or organizing community activities is
  • Experience with project management including planning, coordination, and supervision.
  • Excellent people skills and ability to develop and maintain interpersonal rapport with volunteers and employees.
  • Able to multi-task, meet tight deadlines, and maintain composure under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
  • Highly motivated and self-directed in achieving participant satisfaction and revenue goals.
  • Ability to learn and demonstrate safe, fear free animal handling skills and handle large dogs.
  • Effective presentation skills both one-on-one or in a group setting.
  • Lead, train, and supervise large groups of volunteers with activities, including walking large shelter dogs, making pet treats, cleaning kennels, doing laundry, and washing dishes.
  • Provide guidance, instructions, and support to volunteers throughout events to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Independently set up and break down event areas, including the preparation of tables, signage and supplies
  • Handle administrative duties related to event preparation, including ordering and organizing event supplies.

South Mountain campus is primary location, but employee will work from other locations such as Papago Park as well. Coordinator must have the ability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings, as needed.

    Coordinator must be able to pass a background check and possess an acceptable driving record to be registered as an AHS approved driver.

    Physical Demands / Work Environment :

    While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools or controls, reach with hands and arms, climb stairs, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and / or move up to 50 pounds. Must be able to work outdoors and be exposed to heat and cold temperatures and participate in physical tasks (walking dogs, cleaning kennels, etc.) There will be exposure to dust, heat, cold and temperature changes, wet floors, and animal noises, odors and dander. Many times shifts will be spent outdoors during events at various venues around the Valley.
