Design and construction of custom hardware and instrumentation to support the development of emerging technologies, including design, simulation, development, fabrication, modification, installation and / or testing of electrical components, equipment and systems. Apply knowledge of engineering principles and practices over a wide technical range that may include complex and conflicting features. The candidate will mainly be focused on repair and augmentation of vacuum equipment including sputter, dry etch, PECVD, ALD, evaporation, descum, and vacuum lamination equipment. Primary areas of responsibility will include installation support, repairs, and maintenance on our forthcoming 300mm wafer packaging toolsets as well as existing equipment in the AEP Core. Scope of maintenance needs may increase beyond vacuum equipment to including wet etching, plating, and photolithography equipment as needed.
This position may be subject to additional screening in the hiring process.
Essential Duties :
- Independently plans, schedules, conducts, and / or coordinates detailed phases of engineering assignments while receiving technical guidance on unusual or complex problems and supervisory approval on proposed plans for projects.
- Creates designs and fabricates electrical and / or electronic components, electrical circuits, equipment and integrated systems.
- Sets up and optimizes performance of new custom equipment
- Performs engineering calculations to solve engineering problems.
- Oversees the design or develops engineering designs including plans and specifications based on calculations; reviews, interprets and revises engineering design.
- Develops prototype hardware in coordination with project group members.
- Coordinates the troubleshooting and repair of a wide variety of equipment and instrumentation and / or performs testing and troubleshooting of experimental equipment and systems and performs repairs, modifications or adjustments to eliminate malfunctions.
- Performs research and measurements relating to specific projects, writes documentation, manuals and reports.
- Coordinates with other project group members and supervisor on technical problems.
- Trains faculty, staff and students in operation of equipment.
- Supervises and coordinates the work activities of engineers, scientists, technicians and others who assist in specific assignments.
- Sets up software for data acquisition, storage and sharing.

Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment / field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and / or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
