This position is located at the University Services Building, 1551 S. Rural Road, Tempe, AZ (on Rural Road south of Apache Blvd).
This position requires that you must possess a valid Arizona driver's license (minimum of Class D) upon employment and maintain throughout employment. Post-offer of employment, selected candidate must possess an acceptable driving record which is 5 or fewer points in the most recent 39 month period from date of hire.
This position is considered safety/security sensitive and will include a fingerprint check. Employment is contingent upon successful passing of all background, including fingerprint checks.
Job Description:
Facilities Development and Management (FDM), Business Services, seeks an Employee Relations Specialist to manage division-wide human resources programs and services including employee relations, performance management and driver's license monitoring program for FDM employees at all ASU campuses. This position will also provide support for leaves management, position management, and other HR program-related duties as assigned.
Essential Duties:
Advise and assist management in the handling of employee relations issues to resolution, including conducting investigations, summarizing findings, and determination of appropriate actions.
Advise managers, supervisors and employees with policy interpretation and compliance.
Develop, compile and write communications to include Memorandums of Expectations, termination letters, and other formal correspondence. Ensure that all documents are clear, professional, and aligned with organizational policies and legal requirements.
Coach managers on effectively handling difficult situations, offering guidance on conflict resolution and communication strategies to maintain positive team dynamics.
Oversee department performance management program, and driver's license monitoring program.
Consult with managers and supervisors on performance management guidelines and deadlines.
Work with Office of Human Resources to ensure compliance with university policy and state laws regarding driver's license monitoring.
Work with other university departments to ensure consistency.
Assist with onboarding activities for new Facilities Development and Management employees.
Conduct exit interviews upon request.
Provide support with leaves of absence programs to include Family Medical Leave, ASU Extended Leave, Workers' Compensation and Alternate Duty for a diverse workforce.
Assist with position management and personnel actions.
Prepare periodic reports and records on program activities, progress, status or other special reports for management or outside agencies.
Utilize computer to access and maintain information in Workday, MS Office (Word, Excel, Outlook and Access).
Maintain confidential information.
Establish and maintain effective working relationships and work in a team environment.
Programs will support a diverse workforce (i.e., Facilities Management, Office of the University Architect, Business Operations, Capital Programs Management Group, Asset Management, Energy Innovation and Business Services).
Perform other duties as assigned to ensure the continuity of department operations.
Regular activities require the ability to quickly change priorities which may include and/or are subject to resolution of conflicts.

DAYS AND SCHEDULE: Monday – Friday, 8:00 am – 5:00 pm
Salary rate:
$60,000 - $65,000 per year, commensurate of experience and education. ASU offers a comprehensive benefits package with the State of Arizona.

Exercises judgement within generally designed practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
Regular use of standard office equipment including but not limited to: computer workstation/laptop (keyboard, monitor, mouse), printer, fax, calculator, copier, telephone and associated computer/technology peripherals.
Occasional bending, stooping, reaching and lifting up to 20 pounds.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
