Job Description:
Salary Range: $70,000 - $95,000 per year, DOE
As a member of the Research Data Management Office, the Research Data Manager (RDM) works directly with research teams, their academic and industry partner institutions, and Arizona State University’s Knowledge Enterprise to support research technologies and research data management operations. Initially, the RDM will primarily support data management activities for the SHIELD USA project. The Substrate-based Heterogeneous Integration Enabling Leadership Demonstration for the USA (SHIELD USA) team led by the Arizona State University, in close collaboration with Deca Technologies, will design and develop molded core substrates that enable leap-ahead performance in organic substrate-based microelectronics packages. SHIELD USA’s impact on advanced packaging technologies will enable the re-shoring of packaging to reestablish the domestic microelectronics packaging supply chain. The RDM will organize and oversee SHIELD USA data management activities and is responsible for collecting quality data; for implementing data workflow best practices across multiple institutions, sub-awardees, and vendors; and for generating sponsor and customer reports. The RDM will regularly evaluate data workflows to ensure data are stored in secured environments.
Essential Duties:
- Working with research security teams to accomplish grant objectives and tracking milestones while maintaining focus on data integrity and security.
- Conducting data storage infrastructure onboarding, training, and offboarding activities for project personnel.
- Developing and implementing data workflow best practices and standards within and between institutional and industrial members.
- Performing regular evaluations on data workflows to ensure data integrity and data confidentiality.
- Organizing deliverables and working with SHIELD USA partners and leadership in reporting and disseminating deliverables such as design files, PDK files, and designs of test articles and prototypes for specific end customers in various applications.
- Ensuring that data management plans account for appropriate security measures for export- controlled data and making use of data security tools.
- Utilizing best practices to support research technologies and operations, ensuring the continuity of data-related services from initial data management planning through final publication and/or data archiving.
- Supporting Open Science and Data Sharing within this research domain.
Desired Qualifications:
- Knowledge of multiple database technologies, database management and manipulating data with database queries using MySQL, PostgreSQL or similar systems. Ability to troubleshoot network data flow connections, database errors, etc.
- Knowledge of common research-relevant programming languages (Python, PHP, etc.) and their application for processing, analyzing and managing research data. Knowledge of metadata standards in the value of metadata in the research setting. Strong organizational skills, detail oriented, with an ability to work independently and address tasks prioritized by the research team.
- Strong verbal and written communication and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of web content management systems interfacing with relational database systems using common programming languages and processing and communications software in support of research and public data dissemination.
- Knowledge of database administration to optimize performance of databases (e.g., MySQL) and applications.
- Ability to work as a member of a research team and represent the team at science and technology meetings.
- Ability to communicate findings and recommendations to unit leadership, and to assist and train researchers with their data documentation and organization.
Working Environment:
- Climate-controlled office setting subject to extended periods of being in a stationary position.
- Constantly detects and operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy machine and computer printer.
- Ability to clearly communicate and exchange accurate information to perform essential duties.
- Expected to be responsive to customers, engaged in work production, resourceful, flexible, and respectful of others.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree and seven (7) years of experience appropriate to the area of assignment/field; OR, Any equivalent combination of experience and/or training from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
