PT - Retail Store Associate
Salary:
$15.00 per hour
Summary of Function:
Provide exceptional customer service while assisting in the daily operations of the campus retail store (“Matador Merch”). This role involves engaging with students, faculty, and staff to ensure a positive shopping experience, maintaining store appearance, and supporting inventory management.
Typical Duties:
- Serves Students. Greet and assist customers in a friendly and professional manner. Answer customer inquiries regarding products and store policies.
- Process sales transactions using a point-of-sale system.
- Maintain a clean, organized, attractive store environment including organizing products, folding apparel, and other tasks. Assist with visual merchandising to enhance the shopping experience.
- Stock shelves and assist with inventory management. Work with supervisor to order product.
- Run daily sales reports and other daily clerical duties at the close of each day.
- Collaborate with team members to achieve sales goals and determine future product offerings.
- Facilitate occasional pop-up shopping experiences outside of the store (i.e. athletic events, graduation).
- Support and participate in strategic planning initiatives and perform other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications:
- High School diploma or equivalent
Preferred:
- One semester of college coursework
- Previous retail experience
Classification:
- Non-Exempt
Position Type & Work Schedule:
- Part-time
- Up to 19 hours per week
- Work flexible schedule to meet the program, department, and/or institutional needs, which may include Fridays, nights, and/or weekends
- Store hours: Monday-Thursday 10 am-6 pm
- Some evenings or weekends for occasional pop-up store events throughout the year
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Knowledge of and ability to follow college policies and procedures
- Skill in current technologies and word processing, database, presentation, and spreadsheet software, specifically Microsoft Office applications, Windows, and point-of-sale systems
- Skill in managing one’s own time
- Ability to complete all departmental and/or institutional mandatory training or development
- Ability to organize, work independently, prioritize, and follow multiple projects and tasks through to completion, with close attention to detail while contributing to a team environment
- Ability to provide support and assistance for diverse populations in a professional and supportive manner
- Ability to communicate effectively, verbally, in writing, and in a public setting, and to relate to others in a professional manner
- Ability to analyze problems, identify solutions, and take appropriate actions to resolve problems using independent judgment and decision-making processes
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with other department staff, faculty, students, and the public
Work Environment:
- Inside retail environment with normal noise and lighting levels.
- Work is performed in an open store environment with staff, student, community contact and interruptions
- Working environment may include various locations across the services district, indoor and/or outdoor locations as needed to support departmental or institutional needs.
Physical Demands:
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Prolonged periods of standing and/or walking
- May lift, carry, push, and/or pull, at times a minimum of 25 pounds
- Occasionally stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, reach, and twist
Travel:
- Required to travel to other locations using various modes of private, commercial, or fleet transportation, and as needed to support department and institutional needs
