Description
Job Purpose: Provide nursing care to patients in professional manner. Assist physicians with assessment arid management of patient care. Phone nurse covers when primary nurse needs assistance or is out.
Job Duties:
- Screening all incoming calls to include: explaining lab results, scheduling lab draws and entering order notes for labs, scheduling patient to be worked in.
- Assist patients with Patient Assistance Program including application process and other paperwork concerning the program.
- Handles all prescription refills and prior approval paperwork.
- Assist patients who come in needing to speak with nurse. Performs weight, glucose and blood pressure checks when patients walk in.
- Welcomes patients by greeting them and introducing yourself in person or on the telephone.
- Supports patient care delivery by helping health care providers during examinations; preparing laboratory specimens for UA, Strep and Flu and giving to lab; performing basic laboratory tests on the premises when requested ; disposing of contaminated supplies; sterilizing medical instruments; administering medications on the premises; authorizing drug refills as directed; telephoning and/or sending electronic prescriptions to pharmacies; drawing blood when requested; preparing patients for x-rays; taking electrocardiograms; removing sutures; changing dressings.
- Educates patients by providing medication and information and instructions; answering questions.
- Completes records by recording patient examination, treatment, and test results.
- Completes order notes and nurse notes as required.
- Keeps equipment operating by following operating instructions; troubleshooting breakdowns; maintaining supplies; performing preventive maintenance; reporting when repairs are needed.
- Maintains safe, secure, and healthy work environment by following, and enforcing standards and procedures; complying with legal regulations.
- Maintains patient confidence and protects operations by keeping patient care information confidential.
- Serves and protects the physician or health care provider practice by adhering to professional standards, policies and procedures, federal, state, and local requirements.
- Updates job knowledge by participating in educational opportunities; reading professional publications.
- Enhances health care practice reputation by accepting ownership for accomplishing new and different requests; exploring opportunities to add value to job accomplishments.
- Conforms to all clinic policies outlined in the employee manual or received verbally from a supervisor.
- Keeps all licensures current.
- Performs any other task assigned by a supervisor.
