University of Arkansas Sports Reporter

Arkansas Democrat-Gazette
Little Rock, AR Full Time
POSTED ON 1/8/2025 CLOSED ON 1/21/2025

What are the responsibilities and job description for the University of Arkansas Sports Reporter position at Arkansas Democrat-Gazette?

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette seeks an experienced sports reporter to cover all Arkansas Razorbacks.

We are looking for a well-organized, fast-working journalist who can coordinate with other reporters on covering assignments and be ready to cover breaking news at a moment's notice.

The person we hire for this position must have strong writing skills and be familiar with AP style. The ability to write cleanly and accurately under deadline pressure is imperative.

We are seeking a reporter with extensive professional experience covering collegiate sports. We hope to fill this vacancy with a reporter capable of upholding the standards of its previous occupant, the late 43-year veteran Bob Holt.

“How Bob handled himself on his beat demonstrated some of the best traits of journalists: He was persistent in his pursuit of the answer to his question. And yet, while asking variations of the same question, he was polite and professional. … He leaves mighty big shoes to fill,” Alyson Hoge, managing editor of the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.

The salary is based on experience. Resumes, including a list of job references and writing clips, should be directed to: Tristan Jackson, deputy sports editor, tjackson@adgnewsroom.com.

We offer a comprehensive benefits package to enhance your personal and professional life. Enjoy perks like paid vacation, holidays, sick leave, personal days, and parental leave. Take charge of your well-being with our extensive health, dental, vision, and other insurance coverage. Plan for your future with long-term disability and retirement plans, and access additional support through our Employee Assistance Program when needed.

This is a safety-sensitive position; candidates will undergo a mandatory drug test and background and motor vehicle record checks.

The Arkansas Democrat-Gazette does not discriminate based on race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, disability, age, genetic information, or any other legally protected class or status.
