Under general supervision, this position is responsible for performing various routine labor duties in the cleanup and maintenance of Department property.
Examples of Work
The following examples are intended only as illustrations of various types of work performed. No attempt is made to be exhaustive. Related, similar, or other logical duties are performed as assigned. The Department may require employees to perform functions beyond those contained in job descriptions. The Department may modify job descriptions based on Department needs. The Arkansas Department of Transportation is an "at will" employer.
- Pick up litter (including large tires, dead animals, garbage, etc.).
- Clean up Department property and right of way using industrial weed eaters, brush hooks, chain saws, pole saws, limb saws and other small power equipment.
- Paint sign posts, guard rails, etc.
- Flag traffic.
- Use jackhammers and small hand tools (such as shovels and rakes) to make repairs to highways.
- Mow shoulders and embankment slopes on the right of way using large tractors and gang mowers.
- Load, unload, and stack bagged salt, sand, cement, etc.
- Respond to emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week (such as natural disasters, severe weather, traffic accidents, etc.).
- Perform regular servicing and preventive maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Perform janitorial work.
Minimum Requirements
Ability to learn and work with simple hand tools and small power equipment. Ability to stand and walk for extended periods. Ability to work outdoors in all types of weather conditions. Ability to move heavy objects and materials.
