Job Overview:
The College Health Nurse position at Arkansas State University is a full-time, 12-month role that provides nursing services to support the clinic flow and needs of university students.
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Provide professional nursing care to sick and well students; make independent nursing assessments regarding illness; refer more complex medical problems to the Director or other healthcare professionals.
- Prepare students for medical examinations by a doctor or nurse practitioner; assist with examination or treatment as directed.
- Perform point-of-care tests to include testing for COVID-19, strep, mono, influenza, and pregnancy; maintain quality controls.
- Maintain and order medical supplies; maintain AED and emergency kit.
- Administer injections to include depo provera, immunizations, and allergy injections.
- Maintain confidential health records, record lab work performed, and medications administered.
- Serve as a resource and point of contact for maintaining international student and immunization compliance.
Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Plan, organize, and implement health education material for campus health events.
- Assist in updating policies and procedures.
- Conduct classroom presentations on health topics as requested by instructors.
- Participate in various university and community activities and assume additional responsibilities as assigned by the SHW Director.
Work Conditions:
Work is primarily indoors but requires the incumbent to be in an outdoor environment when traveling between campus buildings or engaging in relevant outreach activities.
