Position Summary:
This Computer Support Specialist position is responsible for providing technical support for the University's A/V systems , security camera systems, and digital signage systems throughout the campus.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Provide design, planning, installation, device configuration/basic programming, and support of classroom and conference room technologies, security cameras and servers, and digital signage players and servers.
Provide technical troubleshooting, and break/fix device support for events and conference meetings.
Responsible for updating project documentation.
Keep up to date with industry standards to analyze requirements, identify shortfalls, and develop solutions for AV system designs, create and execute implementation plans, and perform system testing and system integrations.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong knowledge of signal flow, audio/video signal types, cabling, connector types, and associated terminations procedures.
Ability to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues.
Ability to field engineer solutions for unanticipated design or site challenges.
Ability to gain new technical skills quickly.
Ability to collaborate with others at all levels of the organization as well as vendors.
Ability to train end-user on systems.
Customer service skills, responsive attitude.
Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to communicate complex technical concepts in layman's terms.
Minimum Requirements:
The formal education equivalent to a bachelor's degree in computer science, information technology, information systems, or a related field; plus two years of experience in computer support. OR completion of technical training in information technology, or a related field, acquired from a vocational, military, or industrial setting plus four years of experience in computer support. Additional requirements determined by the agency for recruiting purposes require review and approval by the Office of Personnel Management. OTHER JOB RELATED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE MAY BE SUBSTITUTED FOR ALL OR PART OF THESE BASIC REQUIREMENTS, EXCEPT FOR CERTIFICATION OR LICENSURE REQUIREMENTS, UPON APPROVAL OF THE QUALIFICATIONS REVIEW COMMITTEE.
Preferred Qualifications:
2-years of experience with computer troubleshooting including audio/visual technology (software and hardware).
1-year of experience with basic network troubleshooting.
Experience working in a University environment/setting is preferred.
A/V certification.
Work Location, Environment, and Physical Demands:
The actual work location may be physically on campus in an office environment, possibly shared, or at an approved remote location. Sometimes after-hour event support is required.
