Position Summary:
The Financial Aid Specialist is responsible for assisting in obtaining, processing, and providing of student financial aid information. Applies knowledge of programs, procedures, and policies to provide administrative support and assistance. This position is governed by state and federal laws and institution policy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Meets with students and parents concerning the financial aid application process, types of financial aid available, and deadlines for applying for aid, and assists in completing the required forms when requested.
Completes information needed for disbursement and receipt of funds, and records and submits award information to business office.
Applies knowledge of programs, procedures, and policies to provide administrative support and assistance in a student services function (e.g., registrar, student records, admissions, residence life, financial aid).
Assists current and prospective students and parents with a variety of inquiries and topics.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of student financial aid programs.
Knowledge of interviewing techniques.
Ability to interview and obtain pertinent information.
Ability to disseminate information orally and in writing.
Ability to collect, analyze, and compile data.
Ability to monitor student enrollment activities.
Minimum Requirements:
The formal education equivalent of an associate's degree in general business, office management or a related field; or two years of experience in financial aid, banking or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
3-5 years industry experience in registrar, financial aid, educational counseling, advising office or student accounts.
Customer service experience, strong interpersonal and computer skills.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment.
Proficient with Banner software.
