Position Summary:
The Public Relations & Marketing Specialist is responsible for developing and implementing communication strategies that enhance the institution's reputation, promote programs and events, and foster engagement with internal and external audiences. This individual will write press releases, feature articles, and other marketing materials that reflect the college's mission and values. The specialist will collaborate with campus departments to ensure consistent messaging and branding while managing public relations efforts, social medic accounts, website messaging, and marketing campaigns. This role is an on-campus, face-to-face position and reports to the Chancellor.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Facilitates all campus public relations/web development/campus publications/advertising and media outreach, functions as a community outreach liaison and engages regularly, positively, and professionally with internal and external stakeholders. Writes and publishes press releases and feature articles, promoting the campus to internal and external stakeholders. Responsible for setup of campus advertising at various events and organizations; assists with setup and management of campus events and on campus community events; creates event agendas; facilitates partnerships with local organizations including chamber of commerce and area schools; provides career and professional development training to student groups as needed; identifies needs and resources in the regional communities served; other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Strong writing and public speaking skills, knowledge of Associated Press guidelines; strong organizational skills, computer/website skills, possesses leadership ability, has effective verbal and written communication skills; knowledge of different civic groups and needs in the communities served; ability to handle multiply projects with defined deadlines; ability to work in groups and lead group activities; knowledge of an office environment and maintaining a department budget.
Minimum Requirements:
An Associate's Degree with direct, professional experience in public relations, marketing, journalism, project management, or a field that requires the skills necessary for the job.
Preferred Qualifications:
A Bachelor's Degree with Five (5) years experience in public relations, marketing, community development, project management, or related field requiring the skills directly associated with the job.
Work Locations, Environment, and Physical Demands:
This individual will work in an office setting for a portion of the work and should be able to travel to the various campuses of the university. The employee will need the ability to utilize a computer, various software applications, and other office, photography, and computer equipment. The employee may be required to sit or stand for long periods, navigate between campuses and campus buildings and lift up to 40 pounds.
