Arlington County’s Department of Human Services (DHS) is seeking a dynamic professional to be responsible for enhancing the visibility and reach of child and family wellness through strategic community engagement and partnerships. The Family and Community Engagement Program Coordinator is essential in building relationships with various stakeholders, including community groups, faith-based organizations and local agency partners. The coordinator will play a key role in organizing events, facilitating workshops, training community members, and promoting positive and adverse childhood experiences (PACE) initiatives to a broader audience.

Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in a related field and experience in one or more of the following:
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information. A pre-hire federal background check and State of Virginia Central Registry check will also be completed before hire.
Driver’s License: The applicant must possess, or obtain by the time of appointment, a valid motor vehicle operator's license from the applicant's place of residence and authorize Arlington County to obtain, or the applicant must provide, a copy of the applicant's official state/district driving record. An offer of employment may be contingent upon a favorable review of the applicant’s driving record.
Additional Information
Work Hours: 40hrs/wk, Monday - Friday, typically between standard operating hours of 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. with telework opportunities available upon prior supervisor approval.

Responsibilities
Specific duties include:
- Assessing community needs data to implement creative ways to engage residents in learning about and buffering risks associated with adverse childhood experiences through hosting community events, door to door campaigns, tabling, and workshops;
- Supporting campaigns and projects that are designed to reach and engage the Arlington community, assisting with the development, execution and evaluation of audience-focused outreach efforts through partnerships, social media, materials development and community engagement;
- Collaborating with department leaders and community stakeholders to update, evaluate, and develop prevention and wellness programs geared to marginalized youth and families to include Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian, multicultural communities, immigrants, refugees, LGBTQIA , and people with disabilities;
- Developing and maintaining strategic partnerships with community partners, schools, faith-based leaders, and other stakeholders to address needs and social determinants of health in socio-economic and culturally diverse communities;
- Working with local agencies such as health departments, churches, community centers, homeless shelters, detention centers, nonprofits, and businesses to educate and heighten awareness of mental health promotion, wellness and prevention efforts, and the importance of getting targeted populations linked to care;
- Participating in the implementation, presentation, and evaluation of in-person training and distance learning;
- Maintaining records and data management systems pertaining to community engagement and training sessions, record program outcomes for quality assurance, funding compliance, grant compliance and reporting purposes;
- Assisting with technical writing, presentations and proposal development associated with positive and adverse childhood experiences and mental health promotion initiatives; and
- Developing data collection/outcome measurement tools to illustrate program outcomes.
Minimum
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences, Public Health, Education, Policy, Communications, Public/Business administration or related field;
- Some experience in project/program management to include facilitating, training, and group-learning design skills.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with a Master’s Degree in a related field and experience in one or more of the following:
- Supporting individuals experiencing social stressors and trauma, including but not limited to substance use disorders, family separation, multi system involvement with child welfare, juvenile legal and mental health programs;
- Proficiency with technology and virtual audience participation tools and communication systems, including Google Suite, Slido, Project Management Software, MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Canva, Outlook, Teams, Zoom, Google Hangouts, etc.; and/or
- Facilitating challenging conversations, building rapport and trust, mediating disputes, writing and presenting persuasively to multiple audiences, and collaborating with and uplifting diverse constituencies.
