The Arlington County Treasurer's Office is seeking a full-time Enforcement Cashier to interact directly with the public, accepting payments on delinquent accounts, offering payment plans, applying appropriate enforcement action when required, ensuring a pleasant customer experience in an otherwise unpleasant situation, and to communicate with other County agencies. This position reports directly to the Enforcement Supervisor in the Compliance Division and will share duties with another Enforcement Cashier operating the Compliance Cashier Window. The Treasurer's Office serves an ethnically and culturally diverse population that includes many Spanish-speaking clients.
Specific duties include:
- Operating a cashier window;
- Settling cash and balancing payments;
- Maintaining current knowledge of all tax types, agency debt, court debt, policy, procedure, and
- State code surrounding collection of debt;
- Meeting debtors and resolving issues, providing information and guidance when necessary, and carrying out enforcement actions;
- Utilizing various types of collection software, State databases, and parking ticket software;
- Logging, distributing and responding to correspondence;
- Assisting Tax Relief recipients with the application process in-office and in-the-field; and
- Completing administrative duties and special projects as assigned.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and comfortable collecting on delinquent accounts, and have excellent oral and written communication skills and problem-solving ability. Additionally, the ideal candidate will exhibit coachability, self-motivation, time-management skills, empathy for customers, and the ability to remain professional and calm in a high volume, fast-paced customer service environment. This position requires the ability to multitask and alternate between in-person counter duties and back-office desk duties as needed. The candidate must be adept with technology and with using multiple complex systems at the same time, while eliciting, understanding and advocating for customer needs.
Minimum:
- High School Diploma/GED, or equivalent; and
- Considerable experience performing responsible administrative support activities in programs similar to those in the Treasurer's Office, such as cash handling and working directly with the public in a retail, financial services, or similar customer service environment.
Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with one or more of the following:
- Experience using a wide range of software programs, including Microsoft Office Suite or similar software;
- Experience explaining policies, regulations and/or tax regulations to customers; and/or Bilingual proficiency (English and Spanish).
Special Requirements
Background Check: A pre-employment criminal records check will be conducted. It will include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You will be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
Additional Information
Work hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. This is not a remote opportunity. Employees are expected to be in the office full-time.
