The Arlington County Treasurer's Office is seeking two full-time Payment Specialists for its Operations Division to accurately and efficiently process payment corrections while providing excellent customer service. These employees perform a variety of front-line customer service, technical, and administrative duties. The population served is culturally diverse, with many individuals who have limited English proficiency. These Specialists must be adept with technology and adaptable to using multiple complex systems.
Specific duties may include:
- Processing adjustments and refunds, and correcting payment issues for multiple payment types;
- Researching and correcting payment errors from traditional and non-traditional payment channels;
- Providing excellent customer service by answering customer questions and resolving issues in person, via email, and over the phone;
- Escalating customer issues to the supervisor, deputy, appropriate division, or other County department when necessary;
- Identifying system issues contributing to payment errors, and working with the management team to resolve them;
- Maintaining a broad and current knowledge of overall resources, programs and procedures handled by the Treasurer's Office; and
- Assisting team members with other duties as required.
The ideal candidate will be detail-oriented, organized, and have excellent verbal and written communication skills, as well as problem-solving abilities. Additionally, the ideal candidate will exhibit coachability, self-motivation, time-management skills, and the ability to remain professional and calm in a high volume, fast-paced customer service environment. This position requires the ability to multitask and alternate between in-person counter duties and back-office desk duties as needed. The ideal candidate must be adept with technology and with using multiple complex systems at the same time, while eliciting, understanding and advocating for customer needs.
SELECTION CRITERIA
Minimum:
- Completion of the requirements for graduation from a standard senior high school or vocational school, a GED certificate, or the equivalent; and
- Considerable experience in performing responsible administrative support activities; preferably in programs similar to those in the Treasurer's Office, such as working directly with the public in a retail, financial services, or similar customer service environment.
Substitution: Additional education may be substituted for experience.
Desirable: Preference may be given to candidates with experience in one or more of the following:
- Bilingual (English-Spanish) skills; and Experience working directly with the public explaining policies, regulations and/or tax regulations to customers.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS
Background Check: A pre-hire background check will be made on all candidates selected for employment. It may include checks of the following: criminal record, driving record, education, professional licensure, and credit history. You may be required to sign a release authorizing the County to obtain your background information.
ADDITIONAL INFORMATION
Work Hours: Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. This is not a remote opportunity; employees are expected to be in the office full time.
