What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer Intern Positions (Clinical, Community Resource, Finance, Events) position at Arlington Free Clinic?
Make a difference in the lives of hundreds of low-income uninsured Arlingtonians by joining a vibrant team of nonprofit professionals who strive for excellence. AFC is proud to host six interns for 10 weeks each summer. The internships offered are:
Clinical x2 (Bilingual): The primary focus of this internship will be assisting the clinical staff with day-today operations. Spanish fluency is required. At the end of this internship, you will have utilized your Spanish skills interacting with and interpreting for patients, assisted with data collection used for monitoring patient wellness and grants, supported the clinical staff in myriad ways, and worked with the front desk staff.
Community Resource (Bilingual): The Community Resource Intern will play a vital role in connecting patients to a variety of essential non-medical resources in the community, helping improve their overall well-being. In addition to supporting clinical staff with daily operations, they will assist patients in navigating social services, food programs, housing assistance, and other community resources that can enhance their quality of life. This internship offers the opportunity to make a tangible impact while gaining valuable experience in patient support, resource navigation, and nonprofit work.
Development/Events: The primary focus of your work will be the 2025 Arlington Free Clinic Benefit Gala and Silent Auction, the organization’s largest fundraiser each year. You will support several aspects of planning for the Gala including communications, solicitations, and virtual event logistics. You will also support the general work of the Development team by assisting with data-entry, social media communications, and other projects. At the end of this internship, you will have gained a better understanding of fundraising and development, including key event skills such as timelines, planning processes, silent auction preparation, and community outreach – as well as a basic understanding of the Raiser’s Edge database, which you will be able to translate into future career opportunities.
Finance: The primary focus of this internship will be assisting the Director of Finance with day to day accounting tasks, including accounts payable/receivable, journal entries, and reconciliations. Through the internship the candidate will learn how to apply accounting software and tools to streamline processes and enhance efficiency.
