Join the Arlington Heights Park District team as a Custodian at our Community Center! We're looking for a dependable, detail-oriented individual to help keep our facilities and park grounds clean, safe, and welcoming for all visitors. This hands-on role includes indoor and outdoor maintenance, safety checks, and support for daily activities and events. The schedule for this role is Monday through Friday, from 5:30 am - 1:00 p.m., with occasional adjustments based on business needs.
The salary range for this position is $44,167-$61,343, with an anticipated hiring range of $44,167-$46,750 DOQ.
JOB SPECIFIC INFORMATION
- Cleans and maintains floors, walls, windows, restrooms, locker rooms, and shower rooms; replenishes supplies as needed
- Inspects park grounds and outdoor areas daily; removes litter, debris, and addresses surface hazards to ensure safety
- Performs basic horticultural tasks such as watering and weeding flower beds
- Loads/unloads deliveries, moves furniture, and sets up equipment for daily activities or events
- Conducts monthly safety checks, including fire alarms, extinguishers, emergency lighting, and performs minor repairs
- Operates snow blowers, shovels snow, and applies salt to maintain safe walkways
- Handles accidents involving bathroom messes or vomit cleanup
- Maintains storage areas, boiler/filter rooms, and ensures all workspaces are clean and organized
- Submits daily work reports and follows all district policies and safety procedures
- Performs additional duties as assigned and maintains regular, reliable attendance
SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
- High school graduate or G.E.D.
- Minimum of two year’s experience in general custodial work
- Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training
- Valid Illinois Class “D” Driver’s License
- CPR and AED Certification required within six months of employment
Hours may vary, weekends, holidays, and overtime may be required

- Sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, fingering, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motions.
- Heavy work, lifting up to 75 pounds frequently with assistance, 50 pounds often without assistance, and up to 20 pounds without assistance constantly
- General work area is outdoors, with frequent exposure to natural and potentially extreme weather conditions while performing job duties.
- Exposure to chemicals such as fertilizers, pesticides, cleaning solutions, solvents, petroleum products, etc.
