Job Specific Information
Come make a splash and join our aquatics team as a swim instructor. Our instructors are passionate about working with their students, teaching lifelong water safety and having fun! This position is open to individuals 15 years of age and older. Candidates should be ready to swim 50 yards of freestyle, 50 yards of backstroke and demonstrate the ability to tread water during their interview.
Please note the following specifics for this position:
- Swim Instructors work at a combination of District facilities: Arlington Ridge Center, Pioneer Pool, Frontier Pool, and Recreation Pool. Please note one specific location/pool is not guaranteed.
- Hours are Mondays through Thursdays 9:00-11:30 am and/or Mondays through Thursdays 5:15-7:30pm, and one Saturday or Sunday per week 9:15-11:30am
- Must be available to work a minimum of 10 hours per week during summer seasonal operations
- Training takes place Mach, April and May.
Skills and Qualifications
- A minimum age of 15 is required for this position
- Applicants under age 16 must provide a valid Work Permit when hired
- Thorough knowledge of swimming and instructional techniques
- Thorough knowledge of the principles, practices and standards of CPR and first aid techniques
- Thorough knowledge of emergency and auxiliary services available in the community when needed in an emergency situations
- Good knowledge of Park District Pool Rules and Regulations
- Capacity to lead swim classes, identify students' need for swimming technique improvement and provide instruction for correcting incorrect swimming techniques
- Ability to enforce facility rules and regulations
- Ability to respond to inquiries and requests received from the general public
- Capacity to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers
- Ability to maintain positive and effective working relationships with other employees, children and the general public
- Ability to work with general direction from immediate supervisor
- Capacity to work and maintain composure in periods of high activity and in emergency situations
