ROLE AND PURPOSE :
- To provide assistance to the nurse in caring for students and maintaining student records
QUALIFICATIONS :
Education / Certification :
High School diploma or equivalent from an accredited institutionExperience :
Patient care experience preferredBLS CPR preferredVision and hearing screener preferredMAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES :
INSTRUCTIONAL MANAGEMENT
Reinforce health teaching done by the campus nurseSCHOOL / ORGANIZATION CLIMATE
Work cooperatively with nurse, campus staff, and parents to maintain health of studentsMaintain calm demeanor in stressful situationsSCHOOL / ORGANIZATIONAL IMPROVEMENT
Participate in training to improve skills needed to successfully complete responsibilitiesADMINISTRATION AND FISCAL / FACILITIES MANAGEMENT
Assist the nurse in maintaining all equipment and supplies in the school clinicSTUDENT MANAGEMENT
Administer first aid to ill or injured students, staff and visitorsDocument all care given on appropriate recordPractice universal precautions consistentlyAssist the nurse in administering medications according to district medication policyAssist the nurse in performing medical procedures for student including but not limited to : tube feeding, catheterization, and diabetic careAssist with vision, hearing, and spinal screeningAssist the nurse with documentation of clinic activity and health record maintenanceCheck immunization records and assist the nurse in achieving immunization complianceFollow AISD and Texas DSHS policy for exclusion for communicable diseasesMaintain confidentiality of all student information and recordsInform supervising nurse or building administrator if a need for EMS transport of a student existsElectronic data entryPROFESSIONAL GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT
Attend staff development as assigned by Health Services DepartmentSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Supervise students during the time they are in the clinic to receive clinic servicesMISCELLANEOUS
