Ottoson Middle School 7th Grade Global Studies Teacher

The Ottoson Middle School is seeking a Long Term Substitute Global Studies teacher to begin in the 2025-2026 school year.

The 7th grade Global Studies curriculum is a study of the world’s regions focusing on the history, culture, geography, economy, and governments of Europe, Central/South America, the Caribbean, Asia, the Middle East, Africa, and North America. Throughout their examination of these regions, students explore the themes of migration/borders, the environment, human rights, conflict, health, and energy resources in order to make connections between the regions. The course is focused around the essential question: “How does our understanding of the world today impact the choices we make moving into the future?”

Preferred candidates will have a demonstrated ability to develop critical reading, writing and

historical thinking skills into the curriculum. We also value teachers who are attentive to issues

of social justice, antiracism, and seek to integrate diverse perspectives into the way history is taught. Candidates should have experience differentiating instruction for a wide array of student learning needs as well as knowledge of social emotional learning strategies. Preferred candidates will also collaborate with fellow teachers in the history department, learning community, special educators, administrators, and other staff as well as effectively communicate with parents and guardians at Ottoson Middle School.

Candidates must be appropriately licensed for Middle School History/Social Studies.

Arlington has a well established new teacher induction program with mentoring throughout the school year.

Salary and Benefits are consistent with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Arlington School Committee and the Arlington Education Association.
