JOB DESCRIPTION: This position is a 1.0 FTE located at Gunston School. All Teachers hired after January 15th are considered termed employees. This position is a termed position that is effective through June 18, 2025 only. You would need to re-apply for a position for FY
- RESPONSIBILITIES: Ability to work effectively as a team member with colleagues. Flexible, dependable and highly organized. Excellent interpersonal skills. Ability to teach ASL as a foreign language. EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching high school students. Experience teaching American Sign Language to students. Understanding of methodology of teaching foreign language at the secondary level. Experience developing and implementing ASL curriculum. QUALIFICATIONS: Must have or be eligible for Virginia licensure. Hold a current, valid qualified or professional certification by the American Sign Language Teachers Association; or Hold a current, valid Virginia Quality Assurance Screening Level III Interpreting Certification or higher issued by the Virginia Department for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing; or Hold a current, valid Registry of Interpreters for Deaf certification at least one of the following: Certification of Interpretation (CI), Certification of Deaf Interpretation (CDI), Reverse Skills Certification (RSC), or Comprehensive Skills Certification (CSC); or Hold a current, valid National Association for the Deaf Level IV Certification or higher, and Earned a minimum of three semester hours of methods of teaching foreign languages at the elementary and secondary levels from a regionally accredited college or university. Dual endorsement in English as a Second Language and/or Special Education, or in any other content area, is preferred but not required.
