JOB DESCRIPTION: GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES The Executive Principal for School Leadership and Support provides visionary leadership, strategic direction, and oversight to ensure high-quality instruction, student success, and overall school improvement. This role is responsible for fostering a positive and inclusive school culture, supervising and evaluating staff, and ensuring the effective implementation of district policies, programs, and initiatives. Collaborates with central office leadership, school-based administrators, and community stakeholders to drive academic excellence, operational efficiency, and student well-being. SUPERVISION Work is performed under the supervision of the Chief of School Support. May participate in the recruitment, screening, and appointment of principals and lower-grade staff. Provides guidance and assistance to other full-time, part-time, and hourly employees as assigned. DISTINGUISHED CHARACTERISTICS This is a single-position class that is a key leadership position responsible for executing the vision, mission, and goals of the School Board and APS, under the direction of the Chief of Schools. This role drives school improvement, fosters excellence, and ensures alignment with APS’s policies to achieve academic success and operational efficiency. GUIDELINES Guidelines include, but are not limited to, School Board Policies and Policy Implementation Procedures, supervisor’s instructions, school and department needs and requests, and APS strategic goals for schools and the Office of School Support. CONTACTS Contacts may include the School Board, APS Executive Leadership, school administrators, and most APS central department senior and mid-level administrative staff. Occasional contacts include officials, staff, and peers of Federal, State, and local governments, and school/professional associations. RESPONSIBILITIES: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed.) Serves as an instructional and administrative leader, providing supervision, direction, high-quality feedback, and support to principals. Manages instructional and special programs and school administration affairs, ensuring compliance with school division policies, legal requirements, and alignment with the Strategic Plan. Ensures that School Board-approved instructional and curricular programs are fully, appropriately, and equitably implemented. Assesses school needs and effectiveness, collaborating with administrators to develop long- and short-range plans for assigned schools. Works with school principals to identify, plan, develop, coordinate, and implement objectives for school improvement and student achievement across diverse student populations. Facilitates innovation to improve instructional practices and coordinates pilot programs. Serves as a mentor and coach to school-based administrators. Assists with preparing oral and written communications. Coordinates professional development and growth opportunities for staff. Provides input and assists with principal evaluations, recommending actions for performance issues. Engages with the community and addresses family and community concerns as needed. Recognizes and responds to the multicultural needs of schools, staff, and the community, ensuring equitable outcomes for all students. Acts as a liaison with Division departments, community agencies, and professional groups. Represents the region or Division at national, state, and local meetings, as necessary. Performs related duties as required or assigned. PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES Work requires moving between schools, offices, and community spaces. It requires regular use of office equipment such as computers and telephones. Must be able to review documents with small print and interpret data. HAZARDS/UNUSUAL DEMANDS Some assignments may require evening and weekend work. Frequent travel to school sites or meetings outside the division. Responsibilities may involve tight deadlines and managing multiple priorities. EXPERIENCE: REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES Extensive knowledge of PreK-12 public school administration principles, practices, methods, and techniques. Strong understanding of school turnaround strategies and current trends in public school education. Proven track record in applying school improvement plans. Ability to coordinate school activities effectively and supervise others. Excellent communication skills, both oral and written. Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with staff, schools, community members, and advocacy groups. QUALIFICATIONS: Possession of a Master’s Degree and a minimum of six (6) years of experience in teaching and administration, with at least four (4) years of administrative experience, including some experience at the principal level. A postgraduate educational license with the appropriate endorsement(s) for the assignment, as well as an Administration and Supervision PreK-12 endorsement, is required CONTACT INFORMATION: If you would like to apply to this position please follow these steps.
