RESPONSIBILITIES
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF THE CLASS (May not include all duties performed not all incumbents perform all essential functions delineated) : Performs semiskilled level maintenance, repair, and construction tasks in the glazing and roofing trade; Attends formal courses or performs on-the-job training tasks equivalent to apprenticeship training; Reads and interprets blueprints, sketches, technical instructions and manuals.
EXPERIENCE :
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (The following may not include all the required skills or duties performed) : Knowledge and ability to operate a broad range of power and hand glazier, roofing, carpentry and sheet metal fabrication tools and equipment; Knowledge of the common procedures, materials, hazards and safety precautions associated with roofing, glazing, and related construction activities, and ability to respond appropriately in hazardous situations; Knowledge of national, state and local codes and regulations relevant to trades; Ability to follow and give oral and written instructions, and to read and interpret plans, diagrams, drawings, prints, schematics, etc.; Ability to use arithmetic computations to measure, calculate quantities and cost, etc., and ability to maintain records; Ability to develop and maintain good leadership and interpersonal relationships; Reliable, flexible and dependable
QUALIFICATIONS :
EDUCATION : Completion of tenth grade (preferably completion of high school), including some courses in industrial arts and / or shop mechanics, supplemented by training equivalent to an apprenticeship in the trade. LICENSE / CERTIFICATION : Valid driver’s license; NOTE : All APS employees authorized to drive APS vehicles are subject to either Omnibus Transportation Act drug and alcohol testing procedures (if required to possess a CDL) or the Arlington Public Schools Alcohol and Drug testing procedures (if CDL is no required). PHYSICAL ATTRIBUTES : Possession of the strength and dexterity and fine and gross motor skills required to perform all essential functions, including lifting and carrying heavy objects; balancing self, materials and tools on high and / or slanted surfaces; assembling and disassembling scaffolds and equipment; and operating or utilizing all tools, equipment and vehicles. Work requires significant time spent standing, bending, stooping, working in tiring positions, and working from ladders or scaffolds. HAZARDS / UNUSUAL DEMANDS : Work involves working indoors and outdoors under a wide range of climatic conditions. Exposure to harmful fumes and sprays require use of safety goggle masks, gloves and proper ventilation. Work is performed on ladders, scaffolds, and rising platforms to a height of 40 feet.
