JOB DESCRIPTION: Professional Day and Orientation: July 1-3, 2025 Program Dates: July 7, 2025 - August 1, 2025 Location: Dorothy Hamm MS Model: IN-PERSON The middle school Pathways to Progress summer school program supports newcomer English learners in grades 6 and 7 who are identified as at-risk in reading and math on district assessments.
Instruction will focus on oral language, vocabulary, literacy, and math instruction. Pathways to Progress follows a co-teaching model of instruction in which teaching pairs plan and instruct together.
Teachers with a literacy or math background and experience instructing English learners are encouraged to apply. RESPONSIBILITIES: Participate in professional learning activities before the Summer School session begins. Accommodate, scaffold, and differentiate instruction for English learners as needed Facilitate student interaction and engagement during instruction to increase language development Provide integrated English language development and literacy or math instruction Plan and deliver instruction in collaboration with a co-teaching partner Communicate effectively with families and other staff regarding the Summer School curriculum and instructional strategies that support English learners participating in Summer School EXPERIENCE: Experience teaching middle school students from diverse backgrounds Experience integrating English language development and core-content instruction in literary or math Experience teaching literacy or math to English learners Experience providing flexible small-group instruction QUALIFICATIONS: Virginia-licensed teacher with an ESOL endorsement Experience integrating EL support with core-content instruction in literacy or math Experience teaching diverse middle school students Knowledge of best practices for teaching English learners Knowledge of best practices for providing literacy or math instruction Available to participate in professional learning activities Available to attend professional development on July 1-3, 2025 Willing to work as part of a co-teaching pair and instructional team Ability to work with flexible student groupings CONTACT INFORMATION: Candidates should contact Stephanie Martinez at stephanie.martinez@apsva.us or
