Professional Day and Orientation: July 2, 2025
Program Dates: July 7, 2025-August 2, 2025
Model: IN-PERSON
Location :Washington-Liberty HS
Responsibilities Include :
Assist the summer school administrative team in the implementation of the high school educational program
Assist with the preparation of student class schedules
Assist with student scheduling during the course of the Summer School Program
Provide and obtain student information from the “home school” as needed
Provide individual counseling when needed
Consult and collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators on a regular basis in order to develop strategies to help students be successful in Summer School
Respond to student emergencies in accordance with Arlington School Policies and Policy Implementation Procedures
Assist with the opening of summer school
Assist with the closing of summer school
Meet with students who are in danger of failing/losing credit due to attendance
Withdraw students once they have exceeded the permitted amount of absences
Review all mark verification sheets
Perform additional duties as assigned by the administrative team
Experience :
Experience with children from diverse backgrounds
Previous experience working in summer school (preferred)
Experience working as part of a team
Preferred Qualifications :
Hold a Virginia License as a school counselor
Knowledgeable in the area of high school graduation requirements
Knowledgeable in the area of SOL requirements
Experience with Synergy

Summer School Teachers who are APS employees during the year will be paid the hourly rate or $36.68 per hour., whichever is higher. (Please note Salary earned relative to summer school employment will not be included in the employee’s creditable compensation amount reported to the Virginia Retirement System (VRS).) Retired APS teachers will be paid $49.29 per hour per APS pay plan. Non-APS licensed summer school teachers will be paid $36.68 per hour.
