What are the responsibilities and job description for the Summer School - Library Media Specialist position at Arlington Public Schools?
RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides instruction in locating, analyzing, and effectively using information resources for all curriculum needs.
Collaborates and partners with teaching staff to deliver ongoing instruction in the acquisition of information literacy skills tied to the APS curriculum.
Encourages students and teachers to maximize the use of information in various formats, electronic as well as print, and promotes the ethical use of information technology.
Customizes instruction to serve diverse learning populations through varying instructional activities.
Integrates fiction and nonfiction works into lesson design.
Is knowledgeable about literature for children and young adults
Motivates students to appreciate reading as a lifelong activity.
Provides orientation and training to all students and staff concerning library services and resources, including the use of all features of the APS OPAC, Follett Destiny
EXPERIENCE :
Previous experience with managing a library and working as a school librarian
Experience working with a diverse population of learners
QUALIFICATIONS :
Masters in Library Science or equivalent; school library teaching certificate
Familiarity with the Follett Destiny library software
Familiarity with the Virginia Standards of Learning (SOLs)
Familiarity with the American Association of School Librarians (AASL) National School Library Standards
Familiarity with Dewey Decimal shelving order
Ability to develop literacy and media literacy lessons that support the Virginia SOLs
Strong interpersonal, collaboration and technology skills
