The Financial Reporting Accountant, reports to the Financial Reporting Manager and is an integral member of the Financial Reporting team. This role involves crucial tasks related to the preparation of journal entries and reconciliation schedules for corporate entities, including but not limited to equity, debt and derivatives portfolios, real estate financing portfolios, and the preparation of quarterly and annual financial statements. Key responsibilities encompass executing period-end closing activities, performing account reconciliations, and offering support for ad hoc reporting needs. A solid understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) is fundamental for success in this position. Additionally, the role requires regular collaboration with personnel at all levels within the organization.
Job Duties and Responsibilities
- Assist in the preparation of SEC financial reports, including quarterly and annual reports, current reports, and other necessary filings
- Participate in month-end close processes by preparing, entering, and/or uploading general ledger journal entries related to corporate accounting
- Prepare trial balance reconciliation files and supporting workpapers for various corporate entities
- Participate in the corporate debt recording process by preparing debt-related journal entries and associated workpapers
- Participate in the recording process for the company’s derivatives, including preparing derivative-related journal entries and corresponding workpapers
- Participate in the real estate financing recording process, including creating journal entries, preparing financing invoices, and compiling related workpapers such as quarterly impairment workbooks and CECL allowance
- Prepare quarterly financial reporting schedules to support SEC filings (10-Q/10-K), such as disaggregated financial statement line items and segment reporting workpapers
- Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including but not limited to the consolidated income statement, balance sheet, and statement of equity
- Prepare quarterly earnings releases, supplemental materials, and other investor relations documents with accuracy and compliance with GAAP
- Check eXtensible Business Reporting Language (XBRL) tagging for documents slated for filing
- Engage in the financial reporting process and help coordinate the external audit relationship regarding the consolidated financial statements
- Participate in tax reporting processes, collaborating with external tax advisors, and provide necessary data for income tax provisions, REIT compliance, or annual tax return preparation
- Assist in technical accounting research and analysis of accounting pronouncements and SEC regulations, including qualitative and quantitative evaluations
- Assist in preparation of documentation, such as policy or guidance memos, to interpret and communicate findings from technical accounting research
- Assist in streamlining and enhancing the month-end closing process by developing and implementing improved accounting control procedures
- Update and maintain debt amortization tables and supporting schedules for use in financial reporting and disclosures
- Analyze accounts for any unusual or unexpected activity
- Address and resolve accounting discrepancies and irregularities
- Ensure that control activities are executed properly in the assigned areas of responsibility
- Perform ad hoc reporting and special projects as directed by the supervisor or department head
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or a related fie
- 1-3 years of accounting experience.
- CPA candidate preferred.
- Proficient in the Microsoft 365 application suite.
- Knowledge of Yardi and Workiva a plus.
