This position is in Alexandria, VA and offers a hybrid work environment but does require being in office each week.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION :
The Corporate Project Manager is responsible for overseeing and managing key projects across multiple departments throughout the AFBA / 5Star Life Enterprise. This role involves working at the direction of the President to help set project priorities, and then drive project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring that initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and within budget. The Corporate Project Manager will collaborate with Department Heads, various teams and stakeholders to ensure alignment with corporate goals, mitigate risks, and maintain quality throughout the project lifecycle. Collaborates with Law and Internal Audit Departments to ensure compliance with related regulatory and company policy requirements.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES :
Project Planning & Strategy :
Conduct or oversee the analysis to determine the feasibility and advisability of proposed projects for the President to decision.
Define project scope, goals, and deliverables in collaboration with President and senior leadership.
Develop detailed project plans, including required subject matter expertise, schedules, resource allocation, and budgets.
Establish project milestones and deadlines, ensuring realistic timelines and achievable outcomes.
Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure successful delivery.
Execution & Implementation :
Lead ad hoc cross-functional teams comprised of internal and, as needed, external subject matter experts and functional area leaders to execute corporate projects, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
Manage project tasks, track progress, and adjust schedules as needed to ensure timely completion.
Provide regular status updates to the President and other senior leadership as needed, identifying challenges and opportunities.
Facilitate effective communication between the Executive Office, project team members, affected departments, and external vendors.
Team Leadership & Collaboration :
Manage the internal the Product Council. Work with the Chief Distribution Officer, Sales, IT and other stakeholders to facilitate the President’s evaluation of product enhancements and new product development proposals against criteria that includes member acquisition and retention, financial cost-benefit analysis, and furthering the organization’s mission; establish meeting objectives and timelines for products development and implementation; drive project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring that product initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Oversee the Innovation Task Force. Help to foster, organize and prioritizes ideas and initiatives generated from the group and facilitate the President’s evaluation of the advisability of pursing those initiatives; drive project planning, execution, and delivery, ensuring that approved initiatives are completed on time, within scope, and within budget.
Work with CIO and IT to prioritize and implement new technology initiatives.
Manage and motivate assigned project team members, providing guidance and support to achieve project objectives.
Foster a collaborative environment, encouraging open communication and problem-solving across project teams and departments.
Identify, compile, and deploy personnel, resources, tools, and documentation necessary for project success.
Budget & Resource Management :
Work with CFO’s and department heads to help manage project budgets, ensuring efficient use of resources and staying within allocated costs.
Allocate and prioritize resources effectively, ensuring project requirements are met without exceeding budget.
Quality Assurance & Risk Management :
Implement quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet Enterprise standards and expectations. Works with Law and Internal Audit Departments to ensure projects comply with related regulatory and enterprise policy requirements.
Continuously monitor and manage risks throughout the project lifecycle, making necessary adjustments.
Identify potential improvements in processes and tools to enhance project and ongoing operational efficiency and success.
Reporting & Documentation :
Maintain thorough documentation of project progress, decisions, changes, and milestones.
Provide clear and concise reports to the President and senior leadership on project status, issues, and outcomes.
Ensure all project deliverables are finalized, archived, and delivered to stakeholders.
Continuous Improvement :
Contribute to the development and refinement of project management best practices and frameworks.
Stay current with industry trends, tools, and technologies to optimize project delivery.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE :
Bachelor's degree in Business Administration , Project Management, or related field.
PMP (Project Management Professional) or similar project management certification desired.
At least 5 years of experience in project management, preferably in a multi-departmental, service industry environment.
Experience in Life and Health insurance industry a plus.
Experience performing and interpreting data analysis and developing performance metrics.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Strong knowledge of project management methodologies (e.g., Agile, Waterfall, Hybrid).
Proven ability to manage complex projects, with experience leading cross-functional teams.
Proven ability to identify and compile personnel and resources necessary to successfully complete complex projects.
Familiarity with the entire life cycle of service delivery and / or intangible assets (e.g., financial services, advisory services, consulting, auditing, etc.).
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work with stakeholders at all levels.
Strong issue framing, problem-solving and analytical skills.
Proficiency in project management software (e.g., MS Project, JIRA, Trello).
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail.
Ability to maintain a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information. Excellent judgment is essential.
Strong leadership skills and the ability to motivate and inspire teams, both with and without direct supervisory authority over those teams.
Experience with financial and market analysis, budget management, and resource allocation.
Problem solver with demonstrated independence, autonomy, and accountability.
High proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
Knowledge of change management methodologies a plus.
