Job description
SUMMARY
Responsible for conducting scheduled personal training sessions with paying members. Keeps members safe with proper instruction of fitness equipment. Attends all YMCA training meetings as requested. Must uphold and promote the YMCA mission by demonstrating the core values of caring, honesty, respect, and responsibility.
Main Responsibilities
Works one on one with client, or in small groups of 2-3 clients at a time, meeting 1-3x per week, instructing proper form while utilizing free weights, weight machines, cardio and other equipment, to attain set fitness goals.
Works within scope of practice regarding nutritional recommendations.
Measures client performance and body composition in regular intervals to assess progress.
Conducts complimentary member equipment orientations when requested. Uses these appointments to not only teach members proper equipment usage, but also gain potential new clients. Lists these appointments under floor staff pay on time sheet.
Maintains current personal training certifications and stays current with fitness trends and practices.
Duties and Responsibilities
- Contacts potential new clients immediately (via phone call, email, or text message) and schedules consult to discuss goals and availability as soon as possible.
- Keeps accurate records of receipts for purchased personal training sessions.
- Tracks each session in personal trainer session log with a signature from client each session. Turns log into Wellness Director each Monday of new pay period (every other week).
- Assists in maintenance and cleanliness of fitness equipment and area. Notifies Wellness Director of equipment that needs servicing.
- Checks email daily to keep current with fitness staff announcements and updates.
- Maintains current knowledge of facility events, programs, classes, and offerings and communicates these with clients.
- Cleans up equipment after each session (wipe down with sanitizer, put away equipment in proper storage area, sweeps floors if necessary).
- Contacts previous clients to notify of current personal training specials.
Mandatory Certifications:
The certified personal trainer must maintain and have current the following credentials and licensure:
Personal Training Certification from accredited organization
First Aid/CPR Certification
State Police Criminal Record Check
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
The employee is required to be able to sit; stand; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl; twist and reach. The employee must be able to demonstrate proper exercise technique. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 75-100 pounds.

Work Environment
This job operates in a Wellness Center, based on the fitness floor. The position will interact with children and adults daily.
Travel
Travel is not necessary.
Education and Experience
- Must be at least 18 years of age;
- Minimum one year experienced required
- Must hold current personal trainer certification from accredited organization
- Must demonstrate high level of personal fitness
- Must possess strong interpersonal and customer service skills
