Why?

New Life Camp (NLC), a nonprofit based in Raleigh, NC seeks a new Executive Director. The current Executive Director will retire later this Spring, and the Board has formed a Transition Committee to guide the successful leadership transition.

New Life Camp, currently celebrating its 75th year, exists to love, accept and introduce children and their families to Jesus Christ and equip them to live lives that glorify God through adventure, exhilaration, equipping, and belonging.

Both New Life Camp’s past and its future are firmly rooted in summer camp. Thousands have made decisions for Christ and countless stories of lives transformed have originated in the camp’s cabins and on its grounds through the years. New facilities from a recent capital campaign position New Life Camp to better serve even more children and families on the 72-acre wooded oasis in North Raleigh.

What will you do as New Life Camp’s next Executive Director?

As a baptized believer, the Executive Director is responsible for executing the mission and vision of New Life Camp in alignment with the Christian principles and governance policies as established by and with oversight from the Board of Directors. The Executive Director is the primary leader and ambassador for the organization, serving as the steward for all ministries and services of the camp. The Executive Director leads decision making, influences direction and manages execution. The position engages staff, partners, and churches, locally and nationally in pursuit of New Life Camp’s mission to love and accept children right where they are and walk with them toward God’s best for their lives through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. The Executive Director is responsible for the stewardship of the organization financially, operationally, and spiritually. The role is also a catalyst for fundraising, key donor initiatives and identifying new opportunities for financial support and revenue growth to support the ministry.

The Executive Director will be called upon to fulfil the following key responsibilities :

Leadership & Strategic Impact

Serve as the primary leader, community builder, spokesperson, and administrator.

Work with the board, staff, and stakeholders to implement and track the strategic vision for the organization’s future.

Articulate the vision in an inspiring way to internal and external constituencies.

Build and manage positive relationships with partner organizations, the local community, media outlets and churches.

Communications & Outreach

Build the New Life Camp brand to expand its reach, engage volunteers, and leverage financial, programmatic, and fundraising opportunities.

In collaboration with the Director of Communications, guide all communications including newsletters, impact reports, website, database platform, social media, and other general communications to ensure alignment of the brand, vision, and mission of New Life Camp.

Build and manage positive relationships with partner organizations, the local community, media outlets and churches.

Board Relations

Work effectively with the Directors to implement the strategic plan, fulfill the NLC vision, and balance the interests and needs of programs, facilities, staff, and other stakeholders such as parents, alumni, and donors.

Maintain regular communications with the Board and provide them with the necessary support, counsel, and information required for effective governance.

Ensure a quality process for supporting the Board and their involvement in fundraising, strategic planning, program delivery, and increasing overall visibility among Camp stakeholders.

Help identify, recruit, orient, retain, and celebrate Board members. Ensure a quality process for building the board base and diversifying its membership to reflect the community served.

Operational and Financial Oversight

Establish annual goals and objectives for programs, facilities, and finance, including the development and administration of an annual budget.

Work closely with the Board to finalize strategic and capital projects for the camp, as well as operating goals that stem from these priorities.

Ensure high quality program delivery, metrics, evaluation, and reporting that promote effective utilization of personnel and financial resources. Provide direction for expanding or modifying programs and services as it relates to the strategic plan.

Responsible for the stewardship of all camp facilities, camp equipment and maintaining accreditation.

Ensure strong internal controls, fiscal responsibility, accountability, regular financial statements, and efficient, accurate, and consistent financial operations and practices.

Conduct multiyear financial planning, analysis, and review of trends. Engage the Board in discussions about financial stability and sustainability, fiscal responsibility, potential camp investments, including the development of adequate operating reserves.

Resource Development

Lead fundraising efforts, in collaboration with the Director of Development, personally cultivating and soliciting high level donors and lead partners.

Responsible for the consistent flow of revenue to the organization, supporting programs and activities through diverse and multi-faceted income streams.

Cultivate positive and sustained relationships with funding partners.

Staff Development / Organizational Health

Build a positive work culture that supports a productive, Christ-centered, mission focused work environment.

Develop needed organizational structure, job descriptions, evaluative systems, and procedures to effectively and efficiently achieve strategic goals.

Implement personnel policies, standards for performance and overall performance review processes to ensure growth both spiritually and personally.

Hire, assign, supervise, delegate, evaluate, and terminate staff in accordance with organizational policies and applicable laws.

Foster a culture of teamwork and accountability throughout the organization, developing staff members to their highest potential.

Work with staff to ensure a positive experience for volunteers.

Founded in 1950, New Life Camp, located in Raleigh, North Carolina has had the privilege of blessing kids with an opportunity to experience the pure joys and freedom of summer camp, while providing them a haven that fosters spiritual growth and the love of Christ. In more recent years, New Life Camp’s reach has expanded throughout the community to partners of all ages, becoming a second home for churches, home schoolers and sports leagues alike. As a result, the platform for ministry has increased and the camp is maturing, flourishing as an organization and continues to advance its mission throughout the Triangle. Current programming includes; day and overnight camps, athletics, academic enrichment, after school, home school, retreats, and other outreach initiatives.

This new leader must demonstrate a calling to and a passion for New Life Camp’s vision to surrender everything to impact as many lives as possible for the expansion of the Kingdom of God. In addition, the ideal candidate will possess the following :

A baptized believer with a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, committed to an active and vibrant prayer life and living out a dynamic Christian walk with a loving spirit

A genuine passion for working with youth and a deep understanding of the challenges and opportunities facing young people today. A demonstrated commitment to nurturing their spiritual growth and development

Robust interpersonal and deep relational skills, conflict resolution skills with the ability to engender trust, respect and camaraderie among a group and interact equally well with board members, alumni, parents, staff, youth, and campers

A servant leader who unifies and shepherds cohesiveness, demonstrates sound judgment and understands when it is time to build consensus and when it is time to act

Solid financial acumen to oversee day-to-day operations, direct staff, and manage a budget of at least $2 million

Demonstrated fundraising experience with success in building dynamic relationships with key stakeholders, church, business and foundation leaders, and others who can influence individual, corporate, and foundation giving; experience cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gifts

Inspiring communicator and public speaker who can motivate staff, the Board, donors, partner agencies, and volunteers

Knowledge of human resource functions with direct experience in structuring, hiring, onboarding and continually building a team

Five or more years of experience in non profit executive or pastoral management role where organizational sustainability and growth were key parts of the position

Bachelor’s degree or higher from an accredited college / university

Review of candidates will continue until the position is filled. The salary range for this position starts at $85,000 and has the option of living in a newly renovated onsite residence. In addition, the benefits package includes medical, dental, life, short and long-term disability insurance, a 403(b) retirement plan, accrued vacation and sick time, 10 paid holidays, and a phone allowance.
