SUMMARY :
The Armstrong Company is seeking an experienced and strategic-minded Tax Leader to establish and manage all aspects of our organization's tax planning, compliance, and reporting activities. This individual will be responsible for ensuring tax efficiency, mitigating risks, and maintaining compliance with all federal, state, and local tax regulations. The ideal candidate will provide strategic tax advice to senior leadership and collaborate with external advisors as needed. This position will report to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO).
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES :
Tax Strategy & Planning :
Develop and implement comprehensive tax strategies to minimize tax liabilities while ensuring compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
Provide strategic advice on tax implications for business operations, mergers, acquisitions, and other initiatives.
Tax Compliance :
Oversee the preparation and timely filing of federal and state tax returns.
Ensure compliance with all tax laws and regulations while identifying areas for process improvements.
Manage audits and inquiries from tax authorities.
Financial Reporting :
Lead the preparation of tax provisions and disclosures for financial statements in compliance with GAAP.
Collaborate with accounting teams to ensure accurate and timely tax reporting.
Risk Management :
Monitor changes in tax legislation and assess potential impacts on the organization.
Implement and maintain effective internal controls to manage tax-related risks.
Leadership & Collaboration :
Build and manage a high-performing tax team, fostering professional development and a culture of continuous improvement.
Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, including legal, finance, and external tax advisors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS :
Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (CPA or advanced degree in Taxation preferred).
8 years of progressive experience in public accounting and / or corporate tax, with at least 3 years in a leadership role.
Expertise in federal and state tax laws and regulations.
Strong knowledge of tax accounting principles, including ASC 740.
Proven ability to manage complex tax compliance processes and mitigate risks.
Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.
Proficiency with tax software and financial systems.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS :
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at a time.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear.
Ability to stand for long periods; walk frequently; and bend, stoop, and reach occasionally.
