This National Guard position is for a IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC), Position Description Number T5895000 and is part of the KS 184 Intelligence Wing, National Guard.

Duties

As an IT CYBERSECURITY SPECIALIST (INFOSEC), GS-2210-12, you will serve as Information System Security Officer (ISSO), ensuring the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of classified information systems, networks and data through the enhancement of Department of Defense (DoD) information systems security programs, policies, procedures and tools. Enhancement of information systems security programs, procedures, and tools are specifically accomplished by conducting vulnerability assessments and ensuring all protection needs are met Perform other duties as assigned. This position is located in an Air National Guard (ANG) Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF).

  • Position conducts information assurance functions. Incumbent shall comply with the requirements of the certification program and required to obtain and maintain certification. Certification requirements are outlined in DoD Instruction 8570.01-M
  • Must possess a TOP SECRET clearance with SCI prior to appointment.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • Ability to establish effective professional working relationships with coworkers and customers, contributing to a cooperative working environment and successful accomplishment of the mission.
  • Duties/responsibilities of job may significantly impact the environment. You are responsible to maintain awareness of your environmental responsibilities as dictated by legal and regulatory requirements, your organization, and its changing mission.
  • This is an Information Security Workforce position. Selectee must meet position requirements for certification at Level II in Information Assurance Technician (IAT-II) within 6 months or less of appointment to this position.
  • May be required to travel by car, in military and/or commercial aircraft, and by other means of transportation as appropriate, to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • Irregular and overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies.
  • The employee will be required to have, or obtain, and maintain a valid driver's license.
  • Position is designated as OM-ADM-001 within the Defense Cybersecurity Workforce as guided by NIST SP 800-181; National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education, Cybersecurity Workforce Framework.
  • Position designated as Essential and may be subject to duty in preparation for, or in response to, a state emergency or disaster declaration. This designation will not exceed 14 calendar days per year unless otherwise approved in advance by the TAG.
  • This is a Testing Designated Position (TDP). The employee is subject to random drug testing. Pre-employment drug testing and participation in random drug testing is a condition of employment.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below:

Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail.

Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services.

Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately.

Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:

Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade (GS-11) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. Such experience includes: Knowledge of and skill in applying methods for evaluating, implementing, and disseminating Information Technology (IT) security tool and procedures; Sensitive Compartmented Information Facility (SCIF) Infrastructure; IT security certification and accreditation requirements; network operations and protocols; and computer forensics principles. Develop, implement, and coordinating activities designed to ensure, protect, and restore IT systems, services, and capabilities; monitor an evaluate systems: compliance with IT security requirements; provide advice and guidance in implementing IT security policies and procedures in the development and operation of network systems; and ensure proper protection of evidence used in investigating computer crimes.

Information Assurance Certification is a condition of employment. This position includes information assurance (IA) work as a paramount duty requirement. Per DoD 8570.01-M, the incumbent of this position must achieve the appropriate IA certification within six months of assignment of these duties. A waiver of this six month requirement may be granted per DoD 8570.01-M, C3.2.4.2 or C3.2.4.3. Failure to receive the proper IA certification may result in removal from this position.
