Description
The Counter Sales will work as a part of a team reporting to the Profit Center Manager. This role is the entry level position in the Sales department and will be responsible for operational process and procedure in the respective department. Each Counter Sales person is responsible for maintaining a team approach within the company and maintaining proper housekeeping in the Store and personal area.
General Responsibilities:
- Staffing the Sales Counter, Greeting and Servicing Customers
- Entry Level Order Entry, Sales Transactions and Quotes
- Entry Level Stocking, Cycle Counting and Organization of Inventory
- Relationship building with Internal Customers and Departments, Suppliers and External Customers
- Entry Level Knowledge of products within the department for Promotion and Sale
- Entry Level Knowledge of all Company Policies and Procedures related to the position
- Any and all additional duties which are assigned or which support and assist work associates, enhance operational efficiency, or provide optimum customer service
- Demonstrate the companys mission and its core values in all interactions
Staffing the Sales Counter, Greeting and Servicing Customers
- Providing excellent service by Greeting, approaching and assisting customers in their purchases in a friendly, courteous and helpful manner
- Ensuring that the counter is staffed at all times
- Duties regarding Store Opening, Store Closing and Cash Drawer Procedures
- Providing stock product availability through the use of the POS System
- Providing installation information, product benefits and literature that is available
Entry level Order Entry, Sales Transactions and Quotes
- Ownership of and responsibility for performing an entry level range of processing building materials sales assistance focusing on telephone sales and walk-in traffic through POS System
- The ability to learn and utilize updates and modifications to computer systems as they occur.
- Maintaining customer relations and promoting the sale of stock products from all areas of the profit center
- Directing customers to the appropriate team member to provide quotes and place special orders
- Begin development of knowledge in all product / merchandise sold through the store.
- Learn suggested sales and add-on sales in response to customer inquiries
- Check and monitor the status of all orders placed accurately and timely
- Begin Training and learning POS and as well as the use of software / hardware for the purpose of Quotes and Special Orders
Entry Level Stocking, Cycle Counting and Organization of Inventory
- Stock shelves in store with inventory received daily by following process and procedure
- Perform Cycle counts as directed by Manager
- Maintain sales materials, catalogs and brochures to ensure that they are current
- Maintain Inventory and Housekeeping in your work area and any area assigned to you by your manager
- Inform management of current trends and recurring product requests and inquiry
- Responsible for the care of tools and equipment used in daily tasks
Relationship building with Internal Customers and Departments, Suppliers and External Customers
- Willing and able to work with and respond to customers, associates and managers
- Following up with customers, communicating with vendors, and training
- Direct customer complaints and concerns to appropriate management or designated Customer Service Representative
- Utilize any resource available to provide the Best Customer Service
Entry Level Knowledge of products within the department for Promotion and Sale
- Work to gain knowledge of special order and specialty catalogs, both online and printed, that Arnold Lumber has access to
- Begin developing a working knowledge of stock products within your location through company provided training and utilize all options of training offered
Entry Level Knowledge of all Company Policies and Procedures related to position
- Develop knowledge of store and company procedures relating to stock, sales, returns, delivery, invoicing, special orders, receiving, transfers that enable proper coordination of store services to customer
- Develop as able, construction and/or trade skills, installation techniques, proper measuring, repair and replacement procedures, equipment use and maintenance, etc., as these apply to counter sales
- Associates are responsible to become familiar with all customer policies, i.e. Special Order Return and Deposit policies
- Maintain a team approach within the company
Other Skills and Duties
This position requires continuous mental and visual attention to details of store operations and customer service. Associates must present themselves in a professional manner in regards to appearance, posture, language and demeanor. Through appearance and demeanor, associate must represent the company in a positive and respectful manner in any and all supplier visits, functions and seminars. The following skills are required:
- Ability to communicate clearly and concisely by phone.
- Ability to work safely and observe all safety regulations and company policies
- The ability to learn and develop and apply knowledge of building materials including board footage, square footage and lineal footage conversions
- The ability to follow written and verbal instruction
- The ability to use a variety of job tools including, but not limited to, POS systems, Company Phone Systems and Credit Card Processing
- Organizational skills and the ability to handle multiple tasks and assignments simultaneously
Additional responsibilities and duties as assigned by supervisor or manager.
Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or GED Preferred
- Ability to effectively read and write and good math skills
- Computer literate
- Self-motivation and the ability to learn independently
- Good social, communication and customer service skills and the ability to effectively communicate and work with a team of employees at all levels in an outgoing friendly demeanor.
- 1 years of Customer Service/Sales experience preferred
